Senators Taking off on Easter Break Is Rubbing House Republicans, Others the Wrong Way – RedState

By now, you have likely heard a great deal about the most recent machinations in Congress. Unsurprisingly, people have thoughts on the members of the United State Senate leaving for their two-week Easter vacation/recess. while some in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are missing a third paycheck in a row, and struggling to hold body and soul together. As things stand, the Schumer partial shutdown continues.

One of our colleagues at sister site Toiwnhall wrote a piece earlier on Saturday about Pres. Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan reading the senators the riot act. As Joseph Chalfant stated quite perfectly, Homan did not mince words while chafing the upper chamber members’ rear quarters for “leaving these ICE heroes” to essentially fend for themselves – while continuing to show up to work:

“We cannot do what we do very well if we don’t have those people doing what they do,” Homan said on Fox News’ Saturday in America. “They put gas in cars. They pay bills. They keep their lights on. They make sure we have the equipment to do this job. So, yes, we need everybody funded.”

Now, President Trump has recently signed an order, directing DHS to find funds (possibly from the Big Beautiful Bill/Law) to restore paychecks to TSA agents and others, as RedState wrote late Thursday, and the House Republicans are holding the line by passing a CR (continuing resolution) in their chamber Friday.

Trump Does End Run Around Senate Dems on Paying TSA Workers Amid Schumer’s Partial Govt Shutdown (Update)

As you can imagine, more than a few Republicans in the House (and Senate), among others, were rubbed the wrong way by the last minute move from Leader John Thune and the caucus in the upper chamber, and they raised their voices on X to let them know it.

I’ll start with some righteous anger, courtesy of Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21):

REP. CHIP ROY ABSOLUTELY UNLEASHES: “Could the Senate be any more LAZY than to send to us a bill that doesn’t do the job and then leave town?!”

“So we’re going to stand up and say NO to that. We’re going to send back a bill that’s responsible to the American people!”

“It is absolutely offensive to the people that we represent that the Senate would send over a bill that doesn’t fund Border Patrol and the core components of ICE.”

Here was Senator Mike Lee’s (R-UT) take, as he continued to press a Democrat to see the truth of the bill:

And Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) said fully funding DHS is the only road:

Sen. Lee, who introduced the SAVE America Act, applauded the sentiment in a quotetweet, writing:

Reconvene the Senate

Now

Fund DHS

In full

Then pass SAVE America—by making filibustering senators speak

House Judiciary Committee member, Rep. Tiffany (WI-07) went straight to the point:

100 percent correct. We are not.

House Appropriations Committee member, Rep. Riley Moore (WV-02) called out the Dems, also:

His post read:

Democrats are DESPERATE!

The bill that the Senate passed- aka “Hakeem’s Dream” is America’s worst nightmare.

House Republicans are saying HELL NO to this bill, and instead fight to fund ICE, CBP, and HSI.

It’s time to put an end to this madness.

It’s time to make America safe again!

House Foeign Relations Committee member, Rep. Michael Baumgartner (WA-05) railed against the senators whose “BS stunt” means he’s missing his youngster’s “hoops game”:

I’m fully aware that this job requires tons of travel and crazy hours, but it does indeed bug me that I’m here in DC at 11:30pm voting (for the 4th time!) to fully fund the Homeland budget and missing my kids hoops game tomorrow morning back in Washington because the Senate pulled their BS stunt last night.

This X user wanted action in the Senate to mirror the House GOP’s:

DataRepublican’s take was a long one, but it’s worth a read. She urges Thune and Senate Republicans to “own it.”

Our pal from sister site Twitchy, Politibunny, wasn’t having it:

And indeed, the House worked late on Friday night:

And the Border Patrol Union gave their hearty thanks:

Thank you @SpeakerJohnson @GOPMajorityWhip Emmer and @HouseGOP for standing up for ALL of our brave DHS law enforcement professionals.

The courageous men and women of Border Patrol and ICE risk their lives every day working in the field and behind the scenes to keep our communities safe and enforce the laws that Congress has enacted.

These public safety servants deserve the complete and total support of Congress.

The Senate bill’s failure to provide ALL DHS agencies and employees with the resources and tools they need to do their jobs safely and effectively is completely unacceptable and should not stand.

The Senate should immediately pass the @HouseGOP CR and then use every procedure and parliamentary tool they have to break through ANY filibuster and pass a full DHS funding package that has the backs of ALL our public safety servants and support staff.

More of this, please, from our hired hands in the Washington,D.C., swampland, including this gem by national treasure, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN-02), about senators with, well, special perks at airports:

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
