Christian Coleman was reportedly arrested alongside his girlfriend Sha'Carri Richardson

World champion sprinter Christian Coleman was arrested alongside his track star girlfriend Sha’Carri Richardson after she was allegedly caught speeding at 104mph, according to reports.

Richardson was booked Thursday into Orange County Jail in Florida, with a sheriff’s department spokesperson claiming she had been ‘dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists.’

Richardson later posted $500 bond and was released. The official charge is dangerous excessive speeding at 100mph or more.

Now, however, TMZ reports that Coleman was detained for drug paraphernalia and resisting during the traffic stop near Orlando.

It is claimed that US Olympic gold medalist Twanisha Terry also had a run-in with police and was ticketed.

According to TMZ, an arrest affidavit claims police used radar to catch Richardson’s Aston Martin going at 104mph.

Coleman was reportedly arrested after his girlfriend was pulled over by police in Florida

When the US sprinter was pulled over, a black Jeep stopped nearby. Coleman  reportedly stepped out and asked officers what was going on.

TMZ claims that Richardson identified Coleman as her boyfriend but police say that the world champion refused to identify himself. That led to Coleman being arrested for resisting.

Officers then reportedly searched Coleman’s car, where they found a ‘glass smoking device’ which contained what was suspected to be a small amount of cannabis.

According to TMZ, Terry then arrived on the scene to see what was unfolding. She was ticketed for stopping on a limited access highway before being allowed to leave.

Terry, 27, has in recent years won both Olympic and world championship gold in the 4x100m relay alongside Richardson, who was booked into jail after being pulled over.

Florida has a six-month-old speeding law that makes it illegal to drive in excess of 50mph over the speed limit or to surpass 100mph.

A first conviction can result in up to 30 days in prison or a fine of $500, while a second offense results can be punished by up to 90 days behind bars and a $1,000 penalty.

This is not Richardson’s first run in with the law.

Back in July, the sprinter was detained at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after attacking Coleman in an incident caught on security footage.

Richardson was ultimately booked on fourth-degree domestic violence charge and held in custody for more than 18 hours.

Security footage showed Richardson slamming Coleman up against a support column. An alternate angle appeared to show her throwing something, possibly headphones, at Coleman’s head.

At the time, Nike stood by Richardson and continued to carry her image at the top of their website. Later, she took to Instagram to apologize for the incident.

‘More than anything, definitely a lot of self reflection, a lot of understanding of not only putting myself in a compromising situation with somebody that I have a deep care and appreciation for as well, is something that — holding myself accountable,’ Richardson said in a social media video.

Coleman opted against pressing charges.

Despite the controversy, Richardson was featured in a SKIMS ad shortly thereafter alongside the likes of Kim Kardashian and Serena Williams.

In 2021, meanwhile, Richardson was famously barred from the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for marijuana at the US trials in Oregon, where the drug happens to be legal. She said at the time she ate a THC gummy to deal with depression after the passing of her mother.

She completed a counseling program and accepted the one-month ban. Richardson did win a gold medal running the anchor in the 4X100 relay at the Paris Games in 2024 and took silver in the 100m final.
