In the chilling footage, a large creature is captured prowling the streets in Warrington on October 13

A shocked homeowner has claimed to have recorded a ‘black panther’ roaming the streets of the UK in a chilling footage captured by a doorbell camera.

Stunned Luke Hickman, 30, says his home camera captured the ‘big cat’ prowling outside his home in Warrington, Cheshire, at around 11pm on October 13.

The brief clip shows a black animal with a long, curved tail moving around behind a silver vehicle before walking out of sight.

Although only half of the animal can be seen, it appears to be bigger than an average house cat. However, there is no definitive proof it is a panther, which normally roam the humid tropical forests of and Africa.

But father-of-one Luke is convinced his video shows the suspected apex predator and has now starting to put meat around his garden in the hope of capturing more footage of the beast.

He added: ‘It was last Thursday at around 11pm. I checked the app on my phone and it said that the doorbell had been trigged. It looked like a big cat walking off.

‘There were reports of a sighting last Tuesday in Warrington. This was in Newton, which is about a ten-minute drive away. So, this was two days later.

‘I have been leaving little bits of food around, little bits of chicken, to try and get more footage. I’ve been trying chicken bits from the supermarket at the moment.’

Luke’s remarkable footage follows a possible panther sighting in Warrington last week, where a mother reportedly saw the predator ‘charge’ at her moving vehicle.

Julie Murphy was driving home with her daughter Lois when she says she spotted the fearsome predator arcing towards her car.

She said: ‘It looked like a long, black cat.

‘What made me think it was a panther was its tail – it had a long, thin, curved tail.

‘Even though it was dark, I could tell it wasn’t a fox.’

Earlier this month, a teenager claimed to have spotted a panther feasting on sheep in the Peak District.

Josh Williams, 17, had spent the night wild camping with a friend when they spotted the deadly predator lurking nearby.

The teenager shared the footage online, which attracted other people to come forward and corroborate his story.

Among them was Tracy-Jane Fielding, from Glossop, who believes she too saw a big cat in the Peaks District while camping in October 2021.

‘It was terrifying when I heard it. I looked quickly out of my caravan window, and because we have lights outside, I could see that it was a big, black wild cat. It was different to a dog because it had a long, flowing tail,’ she told the Derbyshire Times.

‘I had heard the noise and the screech from the animal it had eaten, and I was trying to identify that – I think it was a barn owl with white feathers. It made this leap and pounce, it roared, and then there was this awful screech for dear life as the owl was trying to get away.’

Also backing up the teenager’s claims was Youtuber Novice Wildcamper, who had previously shared a video revealing he’d heard a big cat growling from his tent – also in the Peak District.

At the time, he said: ‘I don’t know if you heard that. Not sure if the camera picked it up… God knows what it is.

‘It’s quite a weird, guttural sound.’

After sharing the video, he wrote: ‘There have been sightings round there of big cats but no real proof. Second sound was definitely eerie.’

The video attracted hundreds responses, including one from a person who claims to have grown up around pumas and worked at a zoo.

‘I have heard the noises lions, leopards and tigers make, that was definitely a large cat,’ he said.

‘The guttural sound was definitely a large cat… the second noise however wasn’t a large cat or deer or canine… it sounded much farther away.’

Now after stumbling across Josh’s footage, he’s certain he had a close encounter with the big cat himself.

Other suspected sightings include one by a McDonald’s delivery driver in December 2020 and a further claim by a man that he saw one walk past his house in February 2021.
