Stranger Things season 4 finale confirmed to be over two hours long

- Advertisment -

We’re almost one week out from the premiere of Stranger Things season 4 volume 1, and fans of the sci-fi series cannot contain their excitement. It’s been almost three years since new episodes of the Netflix Original came out, and we’ve been counting down the days since we got the season 4 release dates. On May 27, we’ll get to see the start of season 4, and with promises that this will be the darkest one yet, we can only imagine the action that’s bound to come.

Stranger Things season 4 will consist of nine episodes total just like season 2, however this one will be split into two parts. Though it seems like our binges won’t be that long per volume, that might actually not be true. As we’ve confirmed already, each episode will be supersized.

We don’t have confirmation on exactly how long each episode of Stranger Things season 4 will be, but the Duffer Brothers just revealed something major about the finale. During an interview with The Wrap, the show’s creators shared that episode 9 will be over two hours long. We’re getting an epic move for the season 4 conclusion, y’all!

Stranger Things season 4 finale episode length

Matt Duffer teased to the publication, “Seven and nine in particular are movies. And nine is a long movie,” to which The Wrap had to ask exactly how long.

“We’re still refining it but we will say that it is over two hours. It’s a big one,” Ross Duffer confirmed. Woah!

They also explained why this season is so long, with Matt Duffer sharing:

“The more we were writing, the more we realized we need more time in order for these reveals to land, in order for these storylines to work. Partway through we knew we needed to ask Netflix for nine episodes instead of eight and as we started shooting we realized, Oh these are mega-long episodes.”

Previously, the Duffers compared Stranger Things season 4 to the final season of Game of Thrones, which fans will remember had less episodes but longer ones. Of course, season 8 of the HBO smash hit was widely panned, so let’s hope that’s not the same reaction for the Netflix show.

It’s so interesting to see how the Duffers are treating season 4 considering it’s not even the last season! Netflix confirmed earlier this year that Stranger Things season 5 will mark the end of the show, meaning there’s a lot more to come. And even if season 5 is a short season by chance, we bet the episodes will be extra long.

Stranger Things season 4 volume 1 releases on May 27, with volume 2 to follow on July 1.
