Blame COVID.

The Simple Plan and Sum 41 co-headlining Blame Canada tour show scheduled for Saturday, May 7, at the Stone Pony Summer Stage has been postponed due to a member of the Sum 41 “touring party” testing positive for COVID-19, according to a tour rep.

The new date for the Pony show, which was scheduled to open the 2022 Summer Stage season,  is Friday, Aug. 26. Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date, and the tour lineup will stay the same.

Tour shows in Worchester, Mass., and New York City at Pier 17 also were postponed to August, and the band did not perform at a tour stop in Philadelphia on May 4.

Deryck Whibley performs during the Sum 41 show at the 24th Sziget (Island) Festival on Shipyard Island, Northern Budapest, Hungary, in 2016.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of a fans, friends and tour mates is our number one priority and we appreciate your understanding,” said the band on social media.

New Jersey reported 3,479 new confirmed positive tests on May 5. That’s the highest single day total in three months.

Earlier this year, Sum 41 guitarist Dave Baksh had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

He’s now cancer free.

“Something incredible that this disease taught me is how many amazing and supportive people I have in my life,” said Baksh on social media. “I’m beyond thankful for you and I’m forever in your debt. So as of now I’m cancer free and ready to enjoy tour life again with a fresh perspective on everything.”

Sum 41 is from Ontario and Simple Plan hail from Montreal.

The Offspring and Radkey show on Thursday, May 12, will now open the Stone Pony Summer Stage season.
