Nearly half of independent voters said that President Donald Trump’s makes them feel less patriotic, new polling shows.
Independents are a potent swing bloc and could determine control of Congress in the November midterms.
The June Daily Mail/JL Partners survey found that 33 percent of independents said Trump made them feel much less patriotic, with another 10 percent saying they felt somewhat less patriotic, for a total of 43 percent.
As July 4 approached, Trump made himself the face of the country’s 250th birthday celebration.
Later today, Trump will give remarks on the National Mall amid flyovers and ahead of a massive fireworks display, which could stretch into the early hours of Sunday morning.
But Trump has been active in the lead-up to America 250 as well.
Last month, he hosted the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House’s South Lawn in conjunction with his 80th birthday.
Then he kicked off the Great American State Fair last week, after most musical acts bowed out due to the organizer, Freedom 250, being Trump-associated.

On Wednesday, he flew to North Dakota for the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, meant to coincide with America 250.
And then on Friday, he flew to South Dakota to take in the fireworks display over Mount Rushmore.
Trump’s face has been added to passports and the National Park Service’s annual pass under the guise of America 250.
There’s also been a push to have Trump’s face on a special $250 bank note.
Trump has left some independent voters feeling more patriotic.
The poll found that 10 percent felt much more patriotic, with 15 percent saying they felt somewhat more patriotic.
Trump, not surprisingly, had Republicans feeling very patriotic.
Forty-eight percent responded that they were feeling much more patriotic with Trump in the White House, with another 18 percent saying they felt somewhat more patriotic.

Just 6 percent of Republicans said Trump had them feeling much less patriotic, with another 4 percent saying they felt somewhat less patriotic.
Democrats, also not surprisingly, were feeling the most negative.
Fifty-two percent of Democrats expressed that Trump made them feel much less patriotic, with another 12 percent saying Trump made them feel somewhat less patriotic.
Only 6 percent of Democrats said Trump made them feel much more patriotic, with another 9 percent expressing that they felt somewhat more patriotic.
The poll was conducted from June 24 to 26, sampling 1,059 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
