Music legend Kate Bush has pocketed £10.8million from the revival of Running Up That Hill after the track featured in Stranger Things, I can reveal.
And it is about to land her another handsome payday, 40 years after its original release, as it will again feature in the series’ finale on New Year’s Eve.
The song hit No 3 in the UK when it came out in 1985 – but turned into a global phenomenon when it featured in the hit Netflix drama in 2022, becoming the No1 single of the year worldwide, according to US chart firm Billboard.
Then, it was reported that Ms Bush had earned around £1.9 million in streaming royalties.
Now, however, figures filed for the musician’s publishing company, Noble & Brite, suggest that was only the start.
The firm’s assets have soared from £2.1 million in 2022, before the song featured in Stranger Things, to £12.9million by March this year. That works out at almost £10,000 a day over the period.

The reclusive Ms Bush has spoken of her surprise at the song’s renaissance, telling Radio 4 ’s Woman’s Hour: ‘It’s such a great series, I thought the track would get some attention. But I never imagined that it would be anything like this. It’s just extraordinary… quite shocking really, isn’t it?’
In Stranger Things, Running Up That Hill is grieving teen Max Mayfield’s favourite song and gives her strength to fight demons.
Uncommonly for artists of her generation, Ms Bush, 67, still owns the rights to her recordings, both as writer and performer, allowing her to profit from every stream, download and broadcast.
