Full Court Press…
Not all that busy a day at the courts on Monday — even judges need some downtime. But there was this:

MORNING MUSING
They say it’s wrong to kick a man when he’s down and…in most instances, I’d agree. I do think Minnesota Governor Tim Walz still has a well-earned heap o’ consequence headed his way, though, but the Minnesota fraud story isn’t even really about him, now is it?
We know what’s been uncovered thus far is just the tip of the iceberg. We know there is rampant fraud in many more states than just Minnesota — likely in all of them. Any time you introduce “free” government money into a situation with inadequate oversight, human nature is going to invite those who see an opportunity to make a quick buck (or a million) to take advantage of it. But what of those who enable that scenario — either with their own nefarious intent or…possibly via misguided altruism?
We talk of “teaching moments” — I believe we are being presented with a sterling “learing” opportunity. (Yes, that misspelling is intentional.) This is exactly how not to do government. This is exactly what we should work to eliminate. Think of it like those apps that help you track your spending and highlight all those ticky-tack subscriptions you’re paying for and not really using. That’s helpful — you cut those out, you suddenly find you’re not nearly as cash-strapped as you thought. We need that on an industrial (or…governmental) scale. Think about how much better off we’d all be if we stripped out all the waste and fraud and inefficiencies we’ve just come to accept? (Well, “all” except the fraudsters.)
