Ted Lasso: Where To Watch (Updated February 2024)

When Jason Sudeikis first played Ted Lasso, it was in promotional videos for NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League in England. Lasso went over so well that Sudeikis, along with partners Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, came up with the idea to create a TV show about him. Out of this was born Ted Lasso, an uplifting sports dramedy that some might argue isn’t actually about sports at all. Now with its third season completed, Ted Lasso is more popular than ever.

Since the series’ debut in 2020, Ted Lasso has received widespread critical acclaim. The show was nominated for 20 Primetime Emmy Awards for its inaugural season, making it the most-nominated first-season comedy series ever in the history of the Emmys. What’s more, Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein all won for their performances, while the show overall won the prestigious Outstanding Comedy Series category. Focusing on an American football coach called in to coach an English soccer team even though he knows nothing at all about soccer, Ted Lasso is easily one of the best shows on Apple TV.

Updated February 22, 2024 by David Giatras: As Ted Lasso wrapped up its run last year, it still remains wildly popular among fans and new viewers. This article has been updated to reflect CBR’s current standards and to provide additional information from the end of the series, along with a possible future for Ted Lasso to continue.

Ted Lasso is an original Apple TV+ series and is available to stream in the U.S. exclusively through Apple TV+. If you have or want at least two other Apple services, like Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple News, or Apple iCloud storage, it’s worth the upgrade. When you purchase a new Apple product, you may also receive a free trial of Apple TV+ so you can try it before you buy. Ted Lasso is also available in Canada exclusively on Apple TV+, with a subscription costing $12.99 a month.

It’s easy to sign up for an Apple TV+ subscription right from a compatible smart TV, an Apple TV streaming device, or your Apple iPhone, iPad, or computer. The short answer is no, Ted Lasso is not yet available to watch in any way other than through Apple TV+. You must have a subscription to Apple TV+ and watch the show in digital form. Ted Lasso is not available for rent or purchase anywhere else. You also can’t buy previous seasons of Ted Lasso on Blu-ray or DVD. This includes both the U.S. and Canada. The only way to watch Ted Lasso is through Apple TV+, which is a subscription-based streaming service. To watch Ted Lasso for free, you can purchase an Apple product that comes with an extended trial period, but once the trial period expires, you will be billed for the next month unless you cancel before it renews.

Another option to watch Ted Lasso for free is to sign up for Apple TV+ on its own as a new customer and use the standard seven-day trial period. If you can binge-watch the entire series in that short duration of time, you can technically watch Ted Lasso for free. Otherwise, you can continue for the month and the subscription can be canceled at any time. It also helps that many episodes are 25–30 minutes, whereas most of season 3’s episodes are 40+ minutes.

Yes, Ted Lasso is available in 4K. In fact, almost all of Apple TV+’s original series and movies are available in both 4K resolution with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos/Dolby 5.1 audio. To enjoy Ted Lasso is all its 4K glory, you need to be watching from a 4K-enabled TV or other display.

If you’re using a third-party streaming source device, like an Apple TV, it would have to be 4K as well, like the Apple TV 4K model. Your speakers also need to be compatible with Dolby Atmos to enjoy a truly immersive sound experience to complement the visuals.

Ted Lasso Cast and Character Guide

Ted Lasso is a heartwarming show with many moments that stand out. But it’s characters like Ted and Rebecca that made the show special.

Ted Lasso is the story of an overly optimistic and talented American football coach who is called upon to move to England and coach a failing English soccer team. Unbeknownst to him, the owner, Rebecca Welton (Waddingham), recently jilted by her wealthy husband, wants to use Ted’s inexperience and lead the team to failure. He knows nothing about English football (also known as soccer to Ted) so how could he possibly succeed? It’s her last-ditch effort to anger her cheating ex, Rupert. When Ted arrives, his upbeat positivity initially annoys and frustrates everyone on the AFC Richmond team, as well as die-hard local fans who don’t think he’s up to the job.

Everyone quickly realizes, however, that what the team needs is someone who can inspire them, instill confidence, and make them, to use Ted’s signature word, “believe.” Ted Lasso is initially about sports, but the series wastes no time diving into serious and deep issues, most notably surrounding mental health among men – especially men in sports. The show’s approach to mental health is heartwarming, uplifting, and sweet, featuring characters who buck traditional stereotypes. Ted faces his professional and personal struggles head-on, while the supporting cast around him all have their unique stories to tell. Ted may be the main character, but he is flanked by a terrific ensemble of characters.

Where Else You’ve Seen The Ted Lasso Cast

Ted, Rebecca, and AFC Richmond have returned in Season 3 of Ted Lasso, and fans might be wondering where they’ve seen the cast before.

The question looms as to if there will be a fourth season of Ted Lasso. The show ended on a rather open-ended note, with Ted moving back to the United States to be closer to his son, but the other coaches still at AFC Richmond. Sudeikis has been vague when asked if the show would be returning. He has noted, according to People, that Ted Lasso was intended to be a three-season series. He later told Deadline in an early March 2023 interview that this is “the end of this story we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.” In 2022 at the ATX TV Festival, co-creator and executive producer Bill Lawrence told Deadline that the decision on keeping the show going or not was in Sudeikis’ hands.

This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.

Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent and also works as a writer on the show, told Sunday Times that the third season was being written as if it were the show’s last. He has teased a potential spin-off series or some type of expansion of the show and its themes & characters, but there is no official word on the matter. Sudeikis referenced this in his March 2023 interview with Deadline, stating that they have “set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories…The fact that people want more, even if it’s a different avenue, is lovely.” Nick Mohammed, who plays Nathan Shelley on the series, sent fans into overdrive about 6 months after the show ended when he posted a photo on set with the caption, “One year to the day since #TedLasso wrapped. And one year to the day that I accidentally posted this spoiler of Nate in AFC Richmond kit! Promise it won’t happen again on season 4- now wait.” This led to more speculation that the show could continue on someday, or at least get a spin-off series without Ted. Given the show’s immense popularity, Apple would be wise to continue the show in some way down the line.
