The Black Phone was a Major Success

The Black Phone is an adaptation of a 2004 short story by Joe Hill, which follows a serial kidnapper and murderer named The Grabber (Hawke). Eventually, the protagonist of the film, Finney (Thames), gets kidnapped and must communicate with the deceased victims of The Grabber through a black rotary phone. Finney’s sister Gwen has prophetic dreams, which she uses to locate her brother. The Black Phone received critical acclaim and gained a solid fan base. The exact plot for The Black Phone 2 is still relatively mysterious at this time.

Aside from The Black Phone, Blumhouse is busy with the smashing success of the video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s and promoting the upcoming films Night Swim and Imaginary. Recently, studio founder Blum announced that Five Nights at Freddy’s now holds the honor of being Blumhouse’s most successful film to date, surpassing Split (James McAvoy and Anya Taylor Joy). The film, based on Scott Cawthon’s horror game of the same name, reached over $295 million theatrically with a budget of $20 million. The project took longer than initially anticipated, as Blum wanted to ensure the adaptation was executed authentically and stayed loyal to Cawthon’s popular game.

In addition to The Black Phone 2, Five Nights at Freddy’s director Emma Tammi recently teased a potential sequel for the film by identifying several loose ends that another movie could tie up. The director expressed the team’s desire to continue the story, stating “We’re all, including myself, very excited to keep making movies in this universe if we’re lucky enough to do so and this first one does well.” Whether or not Freddy Fazbear will return is still uncertain.
