The Boys Spotlights The Deep’s Only Respectable Quality

- Advertisment -

The Boys’ official Twitter account highlights The Deep’s commitment to correct pronoun usage, as seen in the latest episode of the Prime Video series.

The following article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 3, Episode 6, “Herogasm,” and Episode 7, “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed,” now streaming on Prime Video.

The Boys just spotlighted morally reprehensible superhero The Deep’s only respectable quality.

The shout-out came via a tweet by the Prime Video superhero satire’s official account. It features a still taken from a scene in The Boys Season 3, Episode 7, “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed” in which The Deep (Chace Crawford) chides his wife Cassandra over her incorrect use of octopus Ambrosia’s pronouns. The accompanying caption reads “If The Deep can be respectful, so can you.”

Crawford recently discussed filming a scene in the previous episode, “Herogasm,” which required him to simulate sex with Ambrosia. The actor described the octopus prop he worked with in the scene as “cumbersome and annoying” and recalled how physically draining it was to wear it while shooting. “I didn’t realize how heavy it was going to be. It was like a necklace. It was hanging around and they wrapped it, but it was so heavy they kept having to detach legs because I couldn’t last all day doing it with this 40-pound thing,” he said.

Crawford also joked that he can’t visit aquariums after filming “Herogasm,” admitting that he wouldn’t blame these venues for banning him over the content in the episode. That said, the star was quick to point out that the sexual acts he seemingly performs in “Herogasm” aren’t scientifically possible, something he hopes will put aquarium owners at ease. “[An octopus’ mouth is] like a beak. It’s not a real [orifice]. You can’t actually do it, so that’s what would be my sales pitch to get back into the aquarium,” he said.

Aside from his gross-out sex scene, The Deep is responsible for yet another of the most memorable moments in “Herogasm”: the opening scene parodying Gal Gadot’s infamous “Imagine” celebrity sing-a-long. Showrunner Eric Kripke recently discussed the genesis of this spoof, recalling how Gadot’s video post instantly made The Boys‘ writers think of The Deep. “[Gadot] did it with good intentions, I don’t want to shit on it,” Kripke said. “But it was funny. And so we were like, ‘That’s something The Deep would do. The Deep would do that.’ So we got the rights to the song and started calling all of our friends [to appear in the parody].”
