The Dead X-Men Discover a New Marvel Timeline - And It’s a Living Hell

Marvel’s Dead X-Men just stumbled into the multiverse’s next worst timeline.

Dead X-Men #1 brings a new lineup of Dazzler, Jubilee, Frenzy, Prodigy, and Cannonball tearing through a portal in space and time, only to set foot in a version of New York City that has been all but razed to the ground by war. Soon enough, the heroes are attacked by roving demons, the agents of none other than Illyana Rasputin, better known as Magik. As it turns out, this particular timeline, accessed through the use of the Moira Engine, is one in which Illyana seized the mantle of Lord of All Hells, as well as complete and total control of Earth, leaving the heroes to declare the timeline a waste before making their daring escape back to the remnants of Krakoa that reside within the infinite expanse of the White Hot Room.

Since their respective demises during Orchis’ assault on the most recent Hellfire Gala, the eponymous team of Dead X-Men #1 have all taken up residence in the realm known as the White Hot Room, a plane of existence that is both home of the Phoenix Force and an ethereal afterlife unto itself. The White Hot Room has also become home to the portion of the Krakoan island chain known as Transit, otherwise Atlantic Krakoa, as well as the majority of the mutants who seemingly lost their lives entirely at the outset of Fall of X.

The technology known as the Moira Engine, crafted by Mister Sinister from numerous comatose clones of Moira MacTaggert, was first seen in the pages of 2022’s Immortal X-Men #1 by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Lucas Werneck. By having these clones keyed into specific points in time, Sinister was capable of using Moira’s mutant ability of self-resurrection to strategically reset his timeline whenever necessary.

Peter Parker Just Proved Doctor Octopus isn’t the Superior Spider-Man

Peter Parker finally proves that Doctor Octopus isn’t truly a hero and may be beyond the point of redemption — making him an inferior Spider-Man.

Though Moira was one of the X-Men’s most prominent allies for decades, the character underwent a drastic tonal shift that saw her side with the anti-mutant organization known as Orchis. In the current timeline, the few remaining mutant heroes of the primary Marvel Universe’s eventual future have turned their attention to Moira’s earliest incarnation as their last chance to make things right, all by sending an agent back in time to assassinate her as a child before her mutant powers can emerge.

Dead X-Men #1 is on sale on January 31 from Marvel Comics.
