The Boys shares an outtake clip of Chace Crawford from his Deep Thoughts With The Deep series and admits that even they love his performance.
On Prime Video’s superhero satire The Boys, Chace Crawford plays The Deep, one of the most loathed supes in The Seven. Behind the scenes it’s a different story, as a clip of outtakes shows a side of Crawford that even Billy Butcher and his gang have to agree is “delightful.”
As Season 3 of The Boys airs, the show’s social media has been releasing a series of videos which feature The Deep making inane statements framed as philosophical wisdom. Titled “Deep Thoughts With The Deep,” these were shared on the Vought International Twitter, an account which stays in character as the corrupt corporation funding supes in The Boys. The final video in the series was captioned, “This may be the last #DeepThoughtsWithTheDeep for now, but the wisdom he’s given us will shape our lives forever.” However, it was the official Twitter of The Boys, which generally tweets as a foil to the Vought account, which posted the outtakes from behind the scenes of The Deep’s ponderings. “The Deep may be a lukewarm piece of cod, but Chace is as delightful as it gets,” the accompanying tweet read.
Crawford proves the point in the outtake video, laughing openly at his own lines after saying them as The Deep’s solemn hero persona. “I love this shit,” he quips while scrolling through an apparent list of quotes for him to read for the camera.
The Deep’s arc in Season 3 so far has seen him brought low as he desperately tries everything to stay in the good graces of Homelander and the adoring public. Unhappy in his arranged marriage and having no real connection with anyone but sea creatures, he’s been at the center of several outrageous scenes involving sexual relationships with octopi.
The Boys, based on the comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, is a satirical look at the superhero genre set in a world where “supes” have extraordinary powers and enjoy endless fame and fortune, but are apathetic and corrupt in their private lives. This is especially true of the highly publicized team called The Seven, who are backed by the scheming Vought International and led by the most powerful — and most depraved — supe, Homelander.
New episodes of The Boys Season 3 release Fridays on Prime Video. The season finale will air on July 8.
