As time continues to pass following the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, the left is doing everything it can to obfuscate the motive of the killer. The reason for that is obvious. Tyler Robinson’s ideology was not ambiguous. It was not a confusing hodgepodge of random conspiratorial positions. Why he pulled the trigger is not some grand mystery.
Robinson, who is now facing capital murder charges, is a left-winger with a furry fetish and a trans-identifying boyfriend. He thought Kirk was a “fascist” who spread “hate” and thus was irredeemable. It was a political killing carried out by a person who believed he had a license to shoot those who disagreed with him on things like biological reality.
That reality is very inconvenient for the Democratic Party, which is desperate to deflect its role in inciting such violence. Which brings me to the latest lie, which is that investigators have found no link between Robinson’s motive and left-wing ideology. Harvard professor, CNN analyst, and writer for The Atlantic, Juliette Kayyem, trotted out that line over the weekend in an attempt to dunk on her critics.

The basis for that claim comes from an NBC News report, which made that claim regarding the killer and left-wing groups.

At no point does the report in question say that the authorities couldn’t find a “nexus between Kirk’s killer and any dominant partisan or political ideology.” Nor are they “struggling to file charges” against Robinson, given that charges have already been filed. What the report said is that investigators have yet to find a direct link with organized left-wing groups. In no way does that negate the killer’s left-wing political views and the role they played in his motive. The evidence for them is overwhelming.
With that said, NBC News knew what it was doing with that report as well. They wanted people to read that headline and draw the same conclusion that Kayyem dishonestly drew, highlighting an arbitrary factor that doesn’t actually disprove anything about Robinson’s chosen ideology. One doesn’t need to belong to a “left-wing group” to carry out an assassination motivated by left-wing politics.

For context, Kayyem is the same hack who falsely claimed that DOGE cuts led to a lack of proper forecasting of the Texas floods. In reality, the regional office had more meteorologists on hand than normal in preparation for the event. She’s also the person who called violent anti-ICE protests “lawful” back in June. So yeah, she’s got a bit of a history.
The broader goal here is to muddy the waters so that the left doesn’t have to accept any responsibility for Kirk’s death. And while I’m not claiming Democrat politicians are directly responsible for this murder, their continued painting of Republicans as “fascists” who are a “threat to democracy” certainly created the environment that fostered it. That needs to be faced head-on, not lied about.
