Speaking on his 'Let Go!' podcast on Monday, Brady admitted he was emotional after his decision to retire for a second time

Tom Brady joked that he’s got to ‘get good’ at retiring after the legendary quarterback announced he was hanging up his cleats for good this time.

Speaking on his ‘Let Go!’ podcast on Monday, Brady admitted he was emotional after his decision to retire for a second time, and that reality ‘hasn’t even sunk in yet’.

‘There’s a lot of emotions,’ the 45-year-old said. ‘You know, I think relief just because there’s a little bit of a decompression, depressurization.’

Brady released an emotional 52-second video to his social media last week in which he explained his decision to step away from the field ‘for good’.

The announcement came one year to the day that he first announced his retirement from the NFL, a decision he shocked fans by reversing just weeks later.

Speaking to Jim Gray on their ‘Let’s Go’ podcast, Brady – considered as the greatest quarterback to ever play the game – joked that he needed to get better at retiring.

‘You know, I’ve done it once before, so I’ve gotta figure this out and get good at this actually,’ the NFL great said. ‘It’s all pretty new.’

‘My friend says, ‘The future happens a day at a time.’ And I think with any great chapter that ends, there’s other great opportunities ahead.

Brady told Gray: ‘I look forward to exploring a lot of other parts of life that have been put aside for a time being. I’ll feel some different things I’m sure as things go along, but I’m doing great, in a great space and excited for what’s ahead.’

Following his stellar 23-year career in which he won seven Super Bowl titles – the most of any player in league history – Brady admitted that his decision was a heartfelt moment that he was yet to get his head around.

‘There’s a lot of emotions,’ he said. ‘You know, I think relief just because there’s a little bit of a decompression, depressurization.

‘For, you know, 32 years you’ve been getting ready to prepare for another season, and I think the reality of that probably hasn’t even sunk in yet.

‘So I don’t know how I’ll feel as those moments get closer to a degree, but I’m really happy and content with kind of where we’re at.’

Gray asked the NFL great if it was accurate to say that he could physically still cope with the toll of the NFL season but that his ‘heart and mind have had enough’.

Brady hit back at, laughing off Gray’s analysis of his retirement decision. ‘No, that’s not accurate,’ he said.

‘There’s always going to be a part of me that wants to play, and a part of me that feels like I can play. There’s just a decision to know that its the right time. It’s going to end at some point and I think now’s the time.

‘It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s not that I wouldn’t want to do it, it’s not that I wouldn’t be excited to play – I love playing football. I’ve loved playing football since I was a kid on the street on Portola Drive. It’s just a decision that it’s time to do other things.’

Brady’s grandmother sent a message of support to the NFL great through the podcast looking back on his career and retirement decision.

Galynn Brady said of her grandson: ‘Tommy’s career has been a really, really great story. Our family has been so blessed with his career and watching him play football and the excitement, and it’s kept our family so close together.

‘People always say, ‘Oh, you must be so happy to hear that he’s retiring.’ You know, we are happy, but there’s also a sadness that goes with it, too, because I loved watching him run on the field and his enthusiasm and yelling, “Let’s go!”‘

Off the field, Brady has been finalizing his highly-publicized divorce over the past year from his now-ex-wife and supermodel Giselle Bundchen.

Bundchen and Brady were married for 13 years before their divorce was finalized in October of 2022.

Rumors speculated that Bundchen was concerned about football’s impact on Brady’s health. She reportedly gave him an ultimatum to retire, otherwise their marriage would end.

Brady turned heads yesterday and the newly-single man stripped down to his underwear on Instagram. The post came just one week after his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen also flaunted her body while posing for a beach-side photoshoot.

The 45-year-old football star took a page from his ex-wife’s book, sharing a nearly-naked image to his Instagram Stories and Twitter account while promoting his underwear line.

He sat on the edge of an unmade bed with his legs open towards the camera, as he covered his privates with his hand, while many of his followers wondered what was going on.

His apparel line reminded him of his promise on Monday and Brady responded with the sultry snap.
