Anime is one of the best forms of entertainment to use as a distraction during trying times. Many characters can teach important life lessons, and the audience can relate to their struggles. Some uplifting anime series simply send positive messages, while others are so funny that they take the viewer’s mind off of whatever may be stressing them out.

10 Haikyuu! Is A Fun Series About Volleyball

Haikyuu! follows Shoyo Hinata as he joins Karasuno’s volleyball team with dreams of surpassing the infamous “Little Giant.” He’s almost always the shortest player on the court, but he makes up for his lack of height with enthusiasm and agility.

It’s a lighthearted, fun series about volleyball with an extensive cast of characters, with standout members on each team for fans to fall in love with. Plus, the series is packed with important, powerful messages that fans can take away from it to empower them through life’s challenges.

9 The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K. Is A Knee-Slapping Comedy About A Teenager With Psychic Powers

The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K. is a slice-of-life anime that combines knee-slapping comedy with the supernatural. Each episode is a series of hilarious mini-stories with high-speed dialogue and even quicker narration by the titular protagonist.

Saiki Kusuo is far from the average high school student. With bright pink hair and antennas on his head, he guides the audience through the series of misadventures that define his life because of his psychic powers. There’s no limit to his powers, and they range from things that are surprisingly useful to completely useless abilities like a beam that upgrades a computer to Windows 10.

8 Kamisama Kiss Is A Comedic Shojo Anime With A Lovable Cast

It’s pretty hard to dislike any of the characters in the divine comedy anime Kamisama Kiss. Though it started with a fairly generic premise, it turned out amazing, and there’s no shojo series quite like it.

Kamisama Kiss follows Nanami, a high school girl who was living on the streets until she became the land god. Tomoe, a stubborn fox yokai, becomes her familiar, and eventually, they fall in love. Tons of wacky adventures ensue as Nanami learns how to be a proper land god. She meets many other yokai along the way and quickly discovers that nearly all gods have hilariously eccentric yet endearing personalities.

7 Fruits Basket Will Make The Audience Feel The Full Range Of Emotions

Fruits Basket is the juggernaut of the shojo genre. The series will make fans scream from laughing one minute but bawl their eyes out the next. Tohru Honda is a high school girl living in a tent after her mother dies, but the Sohmas take her in after a typhoon destroys it.

She realizes that almost all of the Sohmas are haunted by the Zodiac curse, and if she hugs them, they’ll turn into their associated animal. While the series started with a generic comedic premise about how these attractive boys turn into cute animals, it turned out amazing and has a beautiful message at the end of it.

6 Barakamon Makes Average Day-To-Day Activities Seem Exciting

Magical powers, supernatural villains, and gung-ho heroes who declare that they’ll save the world aren’t always necessary when crafting a compelling story, and Barakamon proves it. The series makes average day-to-day activities seem like exciting adventures on their own, and the characters tell the story.

Seishuu Handa is a calligrapher who lost his mind after a professional said that his work isn’t anything to ride home about. His father sent him off to the Goto Islands, where he’s forced to survive in a rural setting for some much-needed soul-searching and self-reflection. As Seishuu is forced out of his comfort zone, he discovers more about himself than he expected.

5 One Piece Preaches About The Importance Of Following Your Dreams

One Piece is a classic shonen series with plenty of inspiring messages, but perhaps its most important is that following your dreams is never something to compromise on. Luffy is an inspiring protagonist with a smile that could light up the darkest room.

Even though everyone mocked Luffy for aspiring to become the Pirate King, he never gave up. In fact, he only became more motivated to prove everybody wrong. Every character in the series has a unique dream of their own, and it’s encouraging to see that they never falter on their way to achieving them.

4 Gintama Will Make The Audience Cry From Laughter

Shonen has so many overdone tropes that it’s easy to make fun of, and Gintama is the perfect parody of the genre. Gintoki is a masterful samurai who works odd jobs to make ends meet. He’s one of shonen’s most likable protagonists because he’s not the typical gung-ho teenager with the power of friendship and anime plot armor by his side.

Gintoki is much more relatable since he only wants to get by. When he isn’t fighting aliens or picking up any job he can find, he’s definitely lounging around on the couch, picking his nose, and reading the latest volume of Shonen Jump.

3 Komi Can’t Communicate Has A Heartfelt Message And Tons Of Comedy

At the beginning of each episode, Komi Can’t Communicate reminds its audience that people with social anxiety may struggle to make connections, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t want to. Komi is a lovable protagonist who, despite her severe social anxiety, wants to make 100 friends.

The series has a heartfelt message and a lovable cast, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Each episode plays out as a couple of mini-plotlines across its 25-minute run-time, so it’s the perfect anime to put on and watch after a long, hard day.

2 Sk8 The Infinity Is An Upbeat Series About Skateboarding With Lovable Characters & A Great Soundtrack

Sk8 The Infinity is an upbeat sports series about skateboarding that deserves a new season. The anime has a lovable cast, tons of comedy, and a rocking soundtrack that’s sure to hype the audience up for every race.

1 Spy X Family Is Like Serotonin

Spy X Family is a hilarious anime about Loid Forger, or “Twilight,” a spy who has to infiltrate a prestigious school to prevent a war. He had to create a makeshift family and now has a telepathic daughter named Anya and a secret assassin wife named Yor.
