House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer vented to Politico 'nobody will ever believe' a final government report on Jeffrey Epstein

The top Jeffrey Epstein investigator on Capitol Hill is worried that his magnum opus may fall flat.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, has been poring over emails, letters, and personal effects belonging to the late pedophile since July.

His probe focuses on how the government handled Epstein’s case, the circumstances of his 2019 death in a New York federal prison, ruled a suicide, the financier’s sex trafficking operation and potential violations involving elected officials.

The sweeping investigation has led to subpoenas for Justice Department files, Epstein’s banking and estate information, and depositions involving some of the pedophile’s confidants, including former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary.

So far, Comer’s efforts have yielded over 65,000 pages of Epstein-related documents, many of which shed light on the mysterious money man’s connections to the rich and famous, and how he operated his sordid trafficking business.

For most congressional investigators, this would be a string of major victories. Especially after Congress recently passed a bill to force the DOJ to disclose additional files – ones that would aid in the ongoing committee probe.

But Comer, 53, is clearly dissatisfied.

‘I fear the report will be like the Warren Report,’ the chairman told Politico. ‘Nobody will ever believe it.’

The Warren Report that Comer mentioned is the official record of President John F. Kennedy’s 1964 assassination, led by Chief Justice Earl Warren.

The Kentuckian’s point: some people may never believe the government’s official story.

So too the Epstein saga has become so entrenched in the American zeitgeist, looming in the shroud of mystery without answers for so long, that large swathes of the public – if not the majority – will not believe the government’s official account.

Comer admitted to Politico that’s partly why he ‘wasn’t excited about doing the investigation.’

‘There’s so many conspiracy theories,’ he added.

Democrats have also worked to distort the committee’s findings, he told the Daily Mail.

‘Democrats are shamefully trying to distort the investigation by lying about witness testimony, selectively leaking documents, and doctoring emails,’ Comer told the Daily Mail in a statement. ‘This undermines the transparency and accountability we are trying to deliver for Americans and the survivors.’

The top investigator is also noncommittal when it comes to producing his own final report on Epstein, akin to Warren’s past efforts, saying it ‘eventually, I would assume.’

The committee recently requested Epstein-linked records from JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank as part of the probe. In addition, the lawmakers have asked the attorney general of the US Virgin Islands to turn over materials relating to Epstein’s islands.

To elicit answers about the perpetrators behind the crimes, Comer said he’s asked female lawmakers on the committee to meet with survivors of Epstein’s abuse.

‘If there is no Epstein list, and the American people expect us to compose an Epstein list, if we don’t get any names from the victims, it’s going to be hard to do,’ the Republican admitted.

However, the chairman also has to worry about angering Trump – especially after some of the files he dug up were used by Democrats to slam the president.

Liberal lawmakers published excerpts from one of Epstein’s birthday books, which contained a drawing allegedly scribbled by the president.

The Oversight Committee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
