Travis Kelce’s father Ed has claimed Taylor Swift was getting ‘a little antsy’ about the NFL star taking too long to pop the question, while sharing further details about the couple’s fairytale proposal.
The songstress and the athlete, both 35, who have been dating for two years, officially revealed their marriage news on Tuesday with a romantic photoshoot showing Travis getting down on one knee in a rose garden almost two weeks ago.
Ed has now revealed that the surprise proposal took place near the sportsman’s home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, after telling his son not to worry about making the affair too lavish and he could ask Taylor ‘at the side of the road’.
Lee’s Summit, which has a population of around 106,000, is less than 20 miles from Travis’ $6m Leawood, Kansas mansion, which fans previously assumed was the location for the proposal.
He told News5Cleveland: ‘[Travis] was going to put it off till this week. I think [Taylor] was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event’.
‘And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you’.

Ed went on to reveal that Travis had taken Taylor by complete surprise and after popping the question the couple quickly FaceTimed family and friends with the wonderful news.
‘He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, “let’s go out and have a glass of wine” … they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,’.
He continued: ‘They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great’.
Ed said he’d since spent time with the newly-engaged couple who he described as ‘crazy about each other’.
He said: ‘Taylor made dinner, and we had a wonderful dinner with them outside on the patio and to just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other. It’s truly kinda neat’.
It comes after Ed made an appearance on Channel Nine’s breakfast program, The Today Show, on Wednesday morning to share new details about the engagement.
He said the proposal happened a few weeks ago after ‘several weeks of prodding from myself and Scott Swift.’
‘He wanted to make it special… Travis’ mother and Taylor’s parents have all expected this for a little while,’ he said.

Ed also confirmed Travis and Taylor haven’t decided when they will be tying the knot yet.
The couple sent fans into a frenzy when they announced their engagement on Tuesday as Taylor captioned the post: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’
The Grammy winner also revealed her jaw-dropping diamond engagement ring in the post – the stunning band is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut and appears to be from Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry. It is worth an estimated $675,000 to $1 million.
The star shared the post on her Instagram, set to the ballad So High School, which is about her enduring love for Travis.
The couple went public with their relationship in September 2023 when the singer appeared alongside Travis’ mother, Donna, at a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Since that day, their romance has captivated the world, with Taylor supporting Travis’ run to two Super Bowls while the NFL star has travelled alongside her around the globe on her wildly successful Eras tour.
The sports star’s close friend Patrick Mahomes was quick to congratulate the couple, sharing Taylor’s post on Instagram with three heart emojis.

In the wake of the announcement, Taylor, Travis and her hit Love Story began trending.

Taylor wore a $400 striped silk-blend dress by Ralph Lauren for her proposal, which featured a ruched top and halter neckline.
She completed the understated look with one of her go-to accessories: a gold Santos Demoiselle Watch by Cartier.
Before Kelce, Taylor was in a six-year romance with actor Joe Alwyn, 34, which ended in April 2023. She then briefly dated The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, 36.
She has also dated Harry Styles, Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris, Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and Conor Kennedy.
Before Taylor, Kelce dated sports broadcaster and model Kayla Nicole from 2017 to May 2022.
