Trump Comes Out Swinging Against BBB Opponent Thom Tillis, Meanwhile Murkowski Votes to Advance – RedState

As we predicted, it’s Saturday night and the sausage-making going on in Congress over the “Big Beautiful Bill” is in full swing. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is reportedly forcing a full, out-loud reading of the almost 1,000-page legislation—a tactic meant to stick a thumb in the eye of Donald Trump and simply delay the proceedings by 12-15 hours—while various senators on both sides are grabbing their own moments in the spotlight.

One of them is North Carolina GOP Sen. Thom Tillis, and the president just unloaded on him on Truth Social for not supporting the bill:

The post is long (click on it to read it in full), but here are some takeaways:

Looks like Senator Thom Tillis, as usual, wants to tell the Nation that he’s giving them a 68% Tax Increase, as opposed to the Biggest Tax Cut in American History! …

America wants Reduced Taxes, including NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, AND NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, Interest Deductions on Cars, Border Security, a Strong Military, and a Bill which is GREAT for our Farmers, Manufacturers and, Employment, in general. Thom Tillis is making a BIG MISTAKE for America, and the Wonderful People of North Carolina!

The president followed up by commenting that maybe it’s time for Tillis to face a primary challenge:

I will be meeting with them over the coming weeks, looking for someone who will properly represent the Great People of North Carolina and, so importantly, the United States of America. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Meanwhile, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski—who as our Ward Clark has pointed out is considering bailing on the Republican party and becoming an independent—voted to advance the BBB:

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R) voted “aye” on Saturday night to advance the GOP megabill to advance President Trump’s agenda after voicing serious misgivings in recent weeks about deep cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the legislation.

Murkowski was one of the last senators to vote for the legislation and was quickly surrounded by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and members of his leadership team when she walked onto the floor, after many of her GOP colleagues had already voted.

The action is heated and ongoing as of this writing, and the outcome is uncertain. I will close with the same line I used in an earlier piece tonight, because it still holds true in my mind:

The voters had their say. Now it’s time to honor them, regardless of what Chuck Schumer thinks about it.

However, I would add, and “regardless of what Thom Tillis thinks about it.”
