President Donald Trump has long warned that non-citizens have sway in US elections and that Joe Biden’s border policies emboldened illegal aliens to vote, though the threat seems smaller than anticipated.
An initial analysis from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which is still underway, shows that the scale of potential illegal voting by non-citizens is relatively minuscule.
The Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE program, under DHS’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has been used to vet voter rolls in mostly Republican-led states across the country.
‘SAVE is an online service for registered federal, state, territorial, tribal, and local government agencies to verify immigration status and U.S. citizenship of applicants seeking benefits or licenses,’ according to the USCIS site.
So far, 10,000 irregularities have been recommended to DHS after a review of nearly 50 million individuals, Matthew Tragesser, a USCIS spokesperson, said.
That means just 0.02 percent of the people processed have been flagged for additional investigation into their citizenship status.
Still, many Democratic-run states have opted out of the program, which is voluntary.
And the Trump administration claims that is where the lion’s share of non-citizen voting occurs.
Trump’s DHS has reviewed close to 50 million US voters and found that only 10,000 – or 0.02 percent – have citizenship irregularities
The president has claimed for years that illegal immigrants voting in elections is a major problem
Still, the findings do indicate that some non-citizens have actually voted in US elections
‘This process takes time, especially given strong opposition from blue states, with notoriously bad voter roll maintenance, that have refused to check their rolls,’ White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told the Daily Mail.
‘The Trump Administration remains committed to securing our elections and ensuring only American citizens vote in American elections.’
California and New York do not have voter ID laws that require voters to show a form of identification before casting a ballot.
Florida and Texas, on the other hand, require a picture ID to vote.
An administration official stressed that the initial analysis is not a complete sample and therefore does not provide an accurate picture of nationwide non-citizen voting.
The Department of Justice is currently suing at least 22 states, including New York and California, to obtain their voter data.
‘We expect to find more problems there because the [New Jersey] list alone had over 10,000 noncitizen voters,’ the official told the Daily Mail.
Law enforcement operations regarding voter fraud continue to ramp up,’ they added.
Trump has slammed large US cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and New York for enabling illegal voting.
‘These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens,’ Trump posted on social media over the summer.
