Two women in their 70s are fighting for their lives after being hit by a reversing Ford Transit van.
The vehicle crashed into the pedestrians in Lowbourne in Melksham, Wiltshire at around 1.30pm on Saturday.
A man, 25, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.
He has been released on bail while Wiltshire Police wait for evidential samples and conduct further enquiries.
The two women were rushed to hospital where they remain in life-threatening conditions.

Sergeant James Twyford from the Roads Policing Unit of Wiltshire Police said: ‘This was a serious incident which has resulted in two elderly women suffering potentially life-threatening injuries.
‘We have already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene and we would like to thank the public for their support with this investigation.
