During a recent USC football game, the Trojan Marching Band paid tribute to some of Nickelodeon’s most beloved television shows by performing their theme songs, capturing the internet’s attention in the process.

As chronicled on TikTok and shared to the @AvatarNews_ Twitter account, the Trojan Marching Band began its performance by playing the theme from the acclaimed animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The band subsequently played the theme songs of such other shows as The Fairly OddParents; The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius; Big Time Rush; iCarly; and, of course, SpongeBob SquarePants. What’s more, in addition to the main SpongeBob theme, the band also played the iconic song “Sweet Victory” from the classic Season 2 episode “Band Geeks.”

Which Nick Shows Did the USC Band Pay Tribute To?

Avatar: The Last Airbender originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008 and remains an audience-favorite, maintaining a strong fanbase to this very day (the maligned 2010 live-action film adaptation notwithstanding). An animated sequel series, The Legend of Korra, ran from 2012 to 2014. A number of animated films set within the Avatar universe are currently in the works. Moreover, a live-action series based on the original cartoon is ramping up at Netflix.

Meanwhile, The Fairly OddParents is Nickelodeon’s second-longest-running animated series, airing for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2017. A trilogy of live-action television films aired from 2011 to 2014, with a new live-action series, The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, premiering on Paramount+ earlier this year. One of The Fairly OddParents‘ early animated contemporaries was The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. Based on Nickelodeon Movies’ 2001 theatrically-released animated feature Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, the show ran for three seasons from 2002 to 2006. Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron even crossed over for a trilogy of specials.

As far as the live-action sitcoms are concerned, the original iCarly ran on Nickelodeon for six seasons from 2007 to 2012. A revival series of the same name premiered on Paramount+ in 2021. Paramount+’s iCarly currently has two seasons under its belt, with a third on the way. Big Time Rush, meanwhile, aired for four seasons from 2009 to 2013.

Jumping back to the animated realm, SpongeBob SquarePants is Nickelodeon’s longest-running animated series of all time, having taken that title from Rugrats a decade ago. SpongeBob initially premiered in 1999 and is still ongoing today, currently in the midst of its 13th season. To date, SpongeBob has spawned three theatrically-released feature films and two spinoff series, not to mention a Broadway musical.
