Vice President JD Vance sent protesters into a tizzy during a visit to La Crosse, Wisconsin, when his motorcade took an unexpected detour, forcing them to sprint with their little placards and Ukraine flags in tow to try and keep up.
William Garcia, chair of the La Crosse County Democratic Party, touted the protest in an interview with News 8 Now on Thursday, calling the turnout “amazing.”
“I mean, with 48 hours’ notice on a Thursday at noon, uh, it just goes to show how upset people are at this administration and how much they’re desperate to really have their voice be heard,” he said.
Yes, I, for one, am shocked—shocked, I say!—that Democrats had the free time away from work to join a protest.
Shortly thereafter, the protesters “desperation” to have their voices heard turned to panic when one of the roads they had lined up along was bypassed, and Vance’s motorcade instead traveled in the opposite direction on a one-way street.
Oh, the video is simply amazing.

Just a few observations here:
- Nobody ever actually gets into a full-blown sprint, even though their entire reason for being there is falling apart before their very eyes.
- There are more Ukrainian flags in the sparse crowd than American flags – no surprise.
- Many of them gave up and walked.
- Man, were they mad about it afterwards.
The Wisconsin Democrats posted a video on social media, describing Vance’s motorcade traveling in the “WRONG WAY” (all caps) as a “disgrace.”
Yeah, you tell ’em. In fact, you know who else liked to go the wrong way down one-way streets? Literally Hitler, man!
One of the unfortunate souls who couldn’t cross to the other side, a woman named Carol Nelson, was furious that Vance and his group didn’t take the exact route upon which they had set up their “freedom not fascism” signs.
Nelson, it should be noted, traveled from her home in Caledonia, Minnesota, crossed state lines into Wisconsin, a 30-minute drive, and had nothing to show for her efforts.
“I knew I couldn’t run fast enough, so I didn’t try,” she said in what I would imagine sounded a lot like Eeyore’s voice, according to the Chippewa Herald. “It was a dirty trick on their part.”
Why, that dastardly JD. I’m so angry my fist is literally shaking. Oh well, at least he got some of these folks to get a little exercise on a nice day.

Nelson ran for election to the Caledonia Public School District in 2024. She just couldn’t run a little more than 50 feet (yes, I measured on Google Maps) to show off her protest signs.
While the protesters were left to kick the grass around them after their epic planning fail, young supporters of the future presidential hopeful stole the show at his speech at Mid-City Steel.
“These kids are the future. We want to make sure that they have a prosperous American future to grow up in,” Vance said of the students in attendance from Luther High School.
“It’s good to learn about it for my future. See if, what if he’s running in the next election? I can vote for him and see him. That’s pretty cool,” one of the students, Gammon Hagedorn, told Kenosha News.
A lot cooler than being on the wrong road during a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get your message across to the Vice President of the United States.
