Verizon experienced a nationwide outage this afternoon, leaving tens of thousands customers across the United States unable to send texts or make calls.
Reports of cell service outages began at around 12pm ET on Saturday, according to Down Detector.
There were almost 24,000 outage reports catalogued on the site, which tracks interruptions of service for many different companies.
Countless outraged customers said on social media that their phones were stuck on SOS mode.
The most common outage locations are in four Florida cities, including Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville and Orlando.
The other most commonly affected cities are Birmingham, Alabama; Atlanta, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Los Angeles, California.
Verizon has said it is aware of the issue and is currently troubleshooting to help get cell service back online for those affected.
‘We are aware of a software issue impacting wireless service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue,’ the company said in a statement.

Furious customers unable to use their phones weren’t shy about taking to social media and attacking Verizon for the outages
Daily Mail has approached Verizon for additional comment on the ongoing service issues.
Customers weren’t shy about sharing their fury with Verizon, especially on X.
‘My phone bill is way too expensive for Verizon to decide to have an outage for the past hour, AT&T would have figured their s**t out by now,’ one person wrote.
Many people have reported that some of the people on their same phone plan have service, while others don’t.
‘Verizon you’ve been down for 3+ hours and when I went into the store the associates said there’s nothing they can do and it would be fixed “shortly”. Worst day for an outage, and other members in my plan work fine??? Hello???’ another person wrote.
Others were frustrated that Verizon seemingly wasn’t acknowledging the outage in the early stages.
‘How about responding to the nationwide outage that’s happening now,’ another person wrote on X, tagging Verizon’s account.
