Wan Zawawi: A great footballer from Malaysia.

Wan Zawawi bin Wan Ismail (born 2 November 1988) is a Malaysian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Malaysian club Selangor and the Malaysia national team.

Wan Zawawi started his career with the Selangor youth team in 2006. He was promoted to the first team in 2009. He made his senior debut on 9 November 2009, in a 3–1 loss against Pahang. Wan Zawawi was called up to the Malaysia national team in 2009. He made his debut for Malaysia on 15 November 2009, in a 2–1 loss against Singapore.

Wan Zawawi was part of the Malaysia squad, which won the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup. In January 2014, Wan Zawawi signed a two-year contract with Selangor.

The Rise of Football in Malaysia-

Wan Zawawi Wan Yusof was a Malaysian soccer player. A prison official on duty, as Malaysian football was not an expert at the time, Zawawi represented the Department of Prisoners, Kelantan FA, and Pahang FA at the time of the football match. He also played for the Malaysian national team and competed in the men’s Olympics Summer 1972, scoring a 3-0 win over the United States in the group stage.

The Major Achievement: A Goal

In a 2016 interview with Berita Harian, Wan Zawawi described playing and scoring at the 1972 Olympics as a significant achievement. “Playing in the Olympics meant a lot to me but scoring a goal made it even more special,” said Wan Zawawi, who created three awesome midfielders with Salleh Ibrahim and Wong Choon Wah.

“When we played against the US, they thought we would be scared but scared after Salleh scored the first goal, they were terrified. “We took advantage of the opportunity and with the passing of Choon Wah, I scored the third goal.”

Wan Zawawi wore the national jersey for the first time when he was selected for the 1969 Asian Youth Championship and made his big team play for the first time the following year at the Bangkok Asian Games.

In addition to the 1974 Asian Games bronze medallist, Wan Zawawi won the Seap Games gold medals in 1971 and 1975 and appeared in the Malaysian Merdeka Tournament in 1971 and 1974 and the South Vietnam Republic Day Cup in 1971.
