What's This Eric Swalwell's Saying About Burying His Political Enemies Beneath the US Capitol? – RedState

Democrats have been losing their minds over the Republicans’ redistricting plans for Texas, which could add 5 GOP members in the House of Representatives.

They had a protest against President Donald Trump on Saturday called “Fight the Trump Takeover,” which was focused on the redistricting battle and Trump taking control of law enforcement in D.C. As we reported, they didn’t seem to have many people out, even in D.C. or Austin, Texas, so it fell rather flat.

Texas Democrats who fled the state to break quorum to prevent the redistricting plans from passing are reportedly returning on Monday. Although they’re trying to spin it as a win because California Gov. Gavin Newsom is now considering a new redistricting plan, they’ve lost – the redistricting will pass in Texas. Democrats are fuming.

One of those fuming was Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA). But not only was he fuming, he was also getting violent in his language. CNN’s Omar asked them about the adage, “When they go low, we go high.” Jiminez asked if Swalwell had any concerns about going low/meeting them fire with fire.

“No,” Swalwell replied, “When they go low, we’re going to bury them below the Capitol.”

Even Jimenez blinked at that one, perhaps not quite believing he said it.

“That is what we are going to do, because this is about protecting democracy,” Swalwell insisted.

Then he ranted about D.C. being militarized and saying they had been “weak” on the issue of D.C. statehood.

First, Democrats are always “going low.” I’m not sure I’ve seen any “go high” in my recent memory. Indeed, I recall Eric Holder mocking that expression and saying, “When they go low, we kick them.” The crowd of Democrats in the audience cheered that.

This comment from Swalwell is even more violent. That’s a threat and there’s no excuse for it.

It’s not about “protecting democracy.” The Texas Democrats were stopping democracy by running away and stopping votes from happening.

Swalwell was also lauding Newsom’s effort. So it’s okay if Newsom does redistricting, but not if the Texas Republicans do it? Jiminez asked him about that, whether the Democrats’ actions are about a grab for power.

Swalwell claimed it was the Republicans who were all about gaining and retaining power, while also saying, “I’m not going to wake up the day after the election and look at democracy in ashes and say, ‘Well, at least we protected California’s independent redistricting commission. No. I’m going to support fighting fire with fire.”

Seriously? The people of California voted to pass the commission. But he’s going to “save democracy” by going around what the people voted into place?

Somehow, there’s a problem with that argument.
