Black Clover’s rapid spike in popularity has made it one of the top series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, even if these days it’s being published in Shonen Jump GIGA. Taking place in a world filled with magic, Black Clover features several powerful characters, and many have garnered fanbases worldwide since their introductions.

Many of the wizards — and later devils — that appear in Black usually rely on their magical grimoires, combining their powers to overwhelm their opponents. These individuals have earned reputations for having incredible magic abilities as well as battle aptitude, making them some of the strongest Black Clover characters.

25 Grey’s Magic Makes Her A Natural Arcane Stage Mage

The members of Black Bull magic guild are misfits rejected by society, so it stands to reason most of them are unaware of their true potential. When Grey is introduced, she takes the form of a large mysterious person who never speaks — but only because her social anxiety prevents her from doing so.

As such, it takes a while for Grey to discover the full range of her Transmutation Magic. Not only can she deconstruct literally any material in existence, but she can also reshape them into different substances, whether they’re magical items or not. The effects of Grey’s transmutation are perpetual, explaining why she’s classified under the Arcane Stage.

24 Rill Boismortier Is Inexperienced But Incredibly Powerful

At only 19 years old, Rill Boismortier proved himself powerful enough to become a Magic Knight captain, although his leadership qualities leave a lot to be desired. That said, the Azure Deer manages to stay in the public’s eye only because of Rill’s remarkable achievements. He uses a rare technique known as Painting Magic, which can essentially manifest his brushstrokes in the real world.

Rill “paints” a pair of tornadoes, using the elements of fire and water simultaneously. This combination is practically impossible for most other people, making Rill one of the strongest characters in Black Clover. Most recently, after training in the Heart Kingdom, he unlocked a higher level of power that can even improve the strength of his allies as well.

23 Langris Vaude Was The Chosen One In His Family

Finral’s younger brother and heir to the Vaude family, Langris is initially introduced as Golden Dawn’s condescending Vice-Captain. He constantly shames his brother, claiming that Finral had always been too weak to seize his dreams. Although he might sometimes seem unhinged, there’s no doubting Langris’ magical prowess.

Langris employs a particularly violent form of Spatial Magic, constructing space-erasing spheres instead of simple teleportation portals. Both anime and manga fans have seen how devastating Langris’ Archangel Shootdown and Archangel Destruction can be. Lately, he’s even come around on supporting his new Captain, Yuno, to help him bring down some of the more powerful devil characters.

22 Charmy Pappitson Is The Ultimate Support Mage

Charmy Pappitson is the last person fans would imagine being one of the strongest Black Clover characters, partly because she never stops thinking about food and eating. However, her human-dwarf hybrid blood grants her access to two separate kinds of magic, both of which work flawlessly in conjunction with each other.

Charmy’s Cotton Magic can spawn a variety of cotton-based constructs, from fluffy clouds and sheep cooks to demonic monster rams. Her Food Magic, on the other hand, produces a gigantic wolf equipped with a knife and fork. Charmy’s wolf can absorb the enemy’s mana, effectively depleting their powers. However, her true skill is in serving as a support mage, recovering and even increasing other’s mana through her cooking abilities.

21 Patolli Channeled His Power Into Revenge

As the leader of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, Patolli is incredibly powerful. His power lets him manipulate light, fire high-speed projectiles from a distance, travel at light speed, and attack with weapons of light. He can even use his light to heal himself. Patolli’s also capable of elevating himself to a level beyond.

After succumbing to despair and becoming a dark elf, Patolli’s magic evolved into Demon Light magic. In this state, his speed and power drastically increased. Not even the teamwork between a transformed Asta and Yuno could stop him. Even after Asta returned Patolli to normal, he retained the ability to use this magic. While Patolli is still one of the most dangerous fighters in Clover Kingdom, he’s largely elected to stay out of the affairs of the humans.

20 Zagred Surprised The Heroes And Villains With His Power

As the mastermind behind the elves’ massacre and turning Patolli into an extremist, Zagred is the very incarnation of evil. Upon his debut, he was also the most powerful character to have ever appeared in Black Clover. Thanks to his World Soul Magic, the Devil could effectively modify its surroundings just by speaking.

After obtaining a Grimoire of Despair, this Devil’s power increased greatly, summoning large masses of demonic energy that absorbed mana and the life force of living beings. His special move, Noad Nephesh, allowed him to keep souls suspended to reincarnate them whenever he wanted, even hundreds of years later. It’s this very plan that allowed him to get away with so much. Even the combined powers of Licht and Lemiel weren’t enough to erase this monstrosity from existence.

19 Lolopechka Doesn’t Use Her Incredible Power For Fighting

As the ruler of the Hearts Kingdom, it’s no surprise that Lolopechka has overwhelming magic at her disposal, not to mention her incredible bravery and power. Throughout the series, she has repeatedly demonstrated her willingness to risk her own life to protect the kingdom.

The queen’s attachment to the natural mana of the Heart Kingdom explains why she has a seemingly unending amount of mana to help others and defeat her enemies. Even though Lolopechka’s combat skills could use some development, her limitless mana reservoir more than makes up for it. Given she also has a connection to the spirit of water, her mana reserves are enough to make her capable of some insane spells, even if she prefers not to fight.

18 Nozel Silva Mastery Over Mercury Makes Him Top Tier

While he may regularly look down on commoners, there’s no denying Nozel Silva’s immense magic power. After constantly training in Mercury Magic, Nozel could adapt to any situation, even against mages with a power advantage. This magic’s versatility allowed Nozel to create a variety of shapes and forms to either attack, defend, or transport himself and others.

When Patolli became a dark elf, Nozel wasn’t the least bit concerned by his increase in power. By solidifying his mercury into a reflective surface, Nozel trapped Patolli and defeated him by reflecting the villain’s dark light attacks.

17 Vanica Zogratis Is The Most Light-Hearted Of The Dark Triad

Although she is a member of the Dark Triad and possessed by the devil, Megicula, Vanica is a pretty happy wizard. One of the more powerful characters in the world of Black Clover, her Blood Magic is strong enough on its own. In combination with her devil’s curse magic, however, it becomes a devastating threat to humanity.

As with her siblings and other devil hosts, Vanica possesses superhuman abilities that push the boundaries of power-scaling in the series. Her superhuman abilities prove to be a nigh-unsurmountable hurdle time and time again. Vanica was most notable as a rival to Noelle, even managing to defeat Noelle until she mastered Saint Magic.

16 Noelle Silva Has Become The Strongest In Her Family Through Constant Training

Noelle Silva could barely control her Water Magic until joining the Black Bulls under Yami Sukehiro. Bolstered by her new friends and their words of encouragement, she finally begins to trust herself long enough to develop several magnificent techniques.

Noelle’s Sea Dragon’s Nest is an excellent barrier against enemy attacks, while her Sea Dragon’s Roar is arguably one of the strongest offensive techniques in Black Clover. With the Water Spirit Undine’s help, Noelle also learns how to wield Spirit Magic. This transforms her into a Saint Stage warrior. Noelle is yet to experience the upper limits of her powers.

15 Nacht Faust Has Mastered The Power Of Devil Union

Every Magic Knight Squad is equipped with a captain and a vice-captain. The Black Bulls’ captain and his squad are clearly the strongest characters in Black Clover, so it only follows suit that their mysterious vice-captain, Nacht Faust, would also be a formidable individual. The Faust family has a history of binding devils to their ranks.

As evidenced by Nacht’s backstory, he was one of the most talented individuals to apply this craft. Nacht has many devils under his control, and, with his knowledge, he’s a vital part of defeating the demonic threat. While Nacht has Shadow Magic, he also has his Union Magic to bond with devils to give him a boost in strength or speed and additional techniques to fight his enemies.

14 Mereoleona Vermillion Is The Uncrowned, Undefeated Lioness

Mereoleona Vermillion is Clover Kingdom royalty. That she makes even Yami feel nervous speaks volumes about her power. Besides being one of the strongest users of Fire Magic, Mereoleona is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Mereoleona proved to be an expert in using the Mana Zone technique to predict her opponents’ moves and manipulate the mana around her, unleashing explosive blasts of Fire Magic capable of destroying solid stone.

Mereoleona was so confident in her abilities that she didn’t hesitate to take on five reincarnated elves — including a magic knight captain — by herself. Mereoleona is easily one of the strongest Black Clover characters, and she’s actually never suffered a proper defeat before.

13 Fuegoleon Vermillion Is The Master Of Fire Spirit Salamander

One of the candidates for Wizard King and deserving of more screen time, Fuegoleon Vermillion stands at the pinnacle of Magic Knights in the Clover Kingdom. Like his sister Mereoleona, Fuegoleon is a powerful manipulator of Fire Magic. He’s also the smartest out of all the Grand Magic Knights.

Fuegoleon can easily wipe out large groups of enemies with enormous blasts of fire, along with concentrated beams to incinerate specific targets. Despite being in a coma, Fuegoleon’s strength never diminished. Instead, he’s become even stronger since regaining consciousness. As the current partner of the Fire Spirit Salamander, there’s no telling how much stronger this wizard will become.

12 The Witch Queen Can Control Anyone She Wants

While little is known about the Witch Queen, she’s considered one of the most powerful magic users in Black Clover. Her Blood Magic grants her complete control over the human body, and she can easily heal limbs and fatal injuries with her centuries of experience. Furthermore, the Witch Queen can remove magical afflictions, such as the curse Vetto placed on Asta’s arms.

The Witch Queen also has the ability to create constructs of blood to attack or restrain her opponents or even manipulate them via their blood. Even the strong-willed Asta couldn’t stop the Witch Queen from having him kill his comrades in several alternate futures. The group only stood a chance because of Vanessa’s incredible ability to manipulate fate itself.

11 Lemiel Silvamillion Clover Used His Might To Become The First Wizard King

Born among royalty, Lemiel is a magical prodigy who becomes the first Wizard King. Like Patrolli, he possesses a four-leaf clover grimoire that allows him to use Light Magic, but on a much larger scale. Lemiel’s overwhelming abilities allow him to sense magical energies miles away from his location.

Lemiel can instantly travel or attack long distances with high-speed Light Magic, as evidenced by his speedy arrival in the Clover Kingdom during the Elven Rebirth. Using Mana Zone, Lemiel can take control of the surrounding mana to unleash several concentrated blasts of light. During his final confrontation with the ancient demon, he even creates giant constructs of light to put an end to its rampage.

10 Licht Was The Original Master Of Asta’s Grimoire

Although Patolli may have taken his name, the villain’s powers are nothing compared to the true Licht. As the original holder of Asta’s grimoire and the creator of his swords, Licht used powers Asta wasn’t yet aware of. For example, after reclaiming the Demon Dweller Sword, the range and amount of mana he could absorb proved far superior to what Asta was capable of.

By drawing on the power of his fellow elves, Licht can unleash concentrated magical energy in a single slash. After turning into an ancient Demon, Licht’s power rivaled that of Lemiel’s. Even if he was ultimately defeated, Licht pushed Lemiel to the brink of death.

9 Zenon Zogratis Completely Masted The Power Of One Of The Strongest Devils

Another member of the Spade Kingdom’s Dark Triad, Zenon Zogratis, is significantly stronger than his sister, Vanica. Before his defeat at Yuno’s hands, Zenon could simultaneously handle two forms of magic at once. His bone magic created tangles of sharp and deadly bones, and his spatial magic created cubes of mana over which he had complete dominion.

Additionally, Zenon could access 100% of his devil’s power. Since he was supposedly one of the most powerful possessors, this meant Zenon’s powers were practically immeasurable at full strength. He’s unquestionably one of the strongest characters in Black Clover.

8 Adrammelech Can Shrug Off The Power Of Some Of Black Clover’s Strongest

There are numerous devils depicted throughout Black Clover. Although the range of their abilities varies significantly, their strength is largely represented by the number of horns on their heads — four being the strongest. Armed with that knowledge, it appears that Adrammelech’s unassuming nature must belie its true strength.

Adrammelech appears towards the end of the Spade Kingdom arc, quickly revealing that it feels completely safe, ignoring the orders of powerful devils like Lucifero. He was also easily able to ignore Lucifero’s Gravity Magic while everyone else could barely stand in its presence. Having aligned with Lucius Zogratis, the four-horned Adrammelech will undoubtedly return in the near future.

7 Lucifugus Can Even Ignore The Power Of Devil-Taming Rituals

While Black Clover makes it clear, there are hordes of devils residing in the Underworld; it also establishes a hierarchy of power-specific tiers to classify them. Only a few of the highest-ranking devils, known as Supreme Devils, have been shown. Yet, one particular Devil stands out for its frightening power: Lucifugus.

Nacht Faust, the vice-captain of the Black Bulls, comes from a family dedicated to binding devils to their will. After Nacht proved his devil-taming abilities, his father attempted to have him control Lucifugus. However, the Supreme Devil’s mere presence ended up killing most of the Faust family. The only thing Nacht’s brother Morgen could do was send him back to the underworld to save his brother.

6 Lily Aquaria Has Been Granted Incredible Power By Lucius Zogratis

At the beginning of Black Clover, Sister Lily was a lovable caretaker who looked after Asta and Yuno. Her development throughout the series felt largely limited; until recently, she had not achieved any notable strength. However, everything changed after her encounter with Lucius Zogratis.

Lucius possessed the power to purify devils, redistributing their power to humans as he saw fit. He first demonstrated this ability on Sister Lily, forcing her to serve as the host of the incredibly powerful (and now purified) Beelzebub. She easily repels Noelle, Mimosa, and Nero immediately after obtaining this power, signaling that the peak of her strength may yet lie ahead.
