Woman's Facebook ring giveaway leads to heartwarming Christmas proposal

A woman who decided to give away her engagement ring from a previous marriage has revealed how the act of kindness led to a heartwarming Christmas proposal.

According to CTV News, Martina Boreland, from Prince Edward Island, Canada, decided to give away her engagement ring on Facebook after she decided that she ‘didn’t need it anymore.’

‘I wanted to give someone something really meaningful and special that they could share with the love of their life, especially around Christmas,’ Boreland told CTV News.

She explained that she was looking for someone who was hardworking and saving up for a ring.

After she posted the giveaway on Facebook, Boreland said that she received tons of replies, but one person’s message stuck out to her in particular.

That was Kalen Macadam’s, who wanted to use the ring to propose to his partner, Amanda Rogers.

‘She’s the definition of my world, she changed me for the better and brought me out of such a dark spot in my life,’ Macadam’s message about Rogers read, according to the outlet.

‘She gave me more than I ever thought anyone ever could … I’ve been trying and trying to save up for a ring for her, but life just won’t let me.’

Boreland picked Macadam as her lucky winner and met him in person to facilitate the handoff.

Macadam, who has been wanting to propose to Rogers for a very long time, said that the gesture ‘melted’ his heart.

‘It’s just bills and everything else like that is simply more important, taking care of the children,’ he explained to the outlet about why he hadn’t proposed yet.

‘It’ll take a financial burden, we could say, off our shoulders.’

And, interestingly enough, Facebook is where Macadams met his now-fiancée, Rogers.

They’ve been together now for four years.

He decided to propose on Christmas day, and of course, she said yes.

‘I don’t think I could ask for a better woman, nor would I want to,’ Macadam told CTV News.

It looks like Macadams will be in good company, as a 2015 survey found that Christmas Eve was the most popular day to propose.

Sitting at a close second is Christmas Day, followed by New Years Eve and Valentines Day.

In a survey of over 2.6 million engaged people, Facebook found that 30 percent of them became engaged across November and December.

The date of choice could be for a number of reasons – the ability to give a Christmas present and engagement ring at once or perhaps, it allows a more than year to plan ahead of a summer wedding.
