X-Men: The Last Stand actor Vinnie Jones will not be joining some of his fellow franchise stars in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Along with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles, Deadpool & Wolverine will be bringing back other familiar characters from the X-Men movie series. Fans can count out seeing Vinnie Jones, who played Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand, among them. In a new interview with Yahoo UK, Jones addressed the unpleasant experience he had working on the 2006 X-Men sequel, a subject he’s publicly addressed in the past. In the new interview, Jones again told the story of how he was excited to work on the movie with Matthew Vaughn before the director was replaced with Brett Ratner, who subsequently butchered Juggernaut’s dialogue.

‘They Want Great Films’: Disney Boss Confident About Deadpool & Wolverine, Rejects MCU ‘Fatigue’
Bob Iger comments on the decline of superhero movies at the box office and why he’s confident about the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
“Well, Matthew was the director on that, Matthew Vaughn, and then he bailed on it,” Jones explained. “He rung me, and he said, ‘Have you signed your contract yet?’ I said, ‘No, why?’ He said, ‘I’m not going to do it. They’re going to bring a new director on.’ So, the new director came on, and it was not the same role as I signed on to do. They diluted the dialogue. It was a bigger role. I’ve actually come out and said that, you know. The director brought in so many other moving parts… and mine was the [only] one that got diluted, the Juggernaut. It didn’t… you know, I lost all interest quite early, because I knew they were just ticking me along, you know what I mean? I was upset. I was very upset, because it was such a [big] movie, such a big stage, and [I] became an extra. That’s what happened.
Jones went on to explain how his iconic line from the film (“I’m the juggernaut, b*tch!”) was added in post-production after Brett Ratner had seen something about it online. While he may have had that memorable moment, Jones still said he was “very disappointed” with how the plans changed for his character. As the actor noted, “I was going in going, ‘Where’s all my dialogue? Where’s the storyline?’ Brett had different directors directing, and he would sit there as the big director. For me, it was a shamble. It was a shame… When it came out, I was upset… Very upset… My character got dumped on.”

Scrapped X-Force Film Would’ve Made Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool the Villain
Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow opens up about the role Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool would have played in his scrapped X-Force movie.
Vinnie Jones Had No Interest in Revisiting Juggernaut
While Vinnie Jones was upset that Juggernaut’s role was pared down in X-Men: The Last Stand, he has since said goodbye to the character, having no interest in slipping back into that outfit. Jones shared how he was given an offer to return as the Juggernaut character for a special appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, and while he liked the idea of working on a Deadpool movie, he was quick to give it a rejection. The actor said this was because of how taxing it was to wear the Juggernaut outfit, and the pay that was offered just didn’t seem worth it for Jones.
“Funny enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one that’s coming out now,” Jones said. “I spoke to the director, and I just said, ‘It’s such a drama putting that suit on, mentally and physically.’ It had its mental toll as well, because you’re in it, and you can’t do anything all day. You can only drink from a straw. So, we couldn’t strike a deal for Deadpool, but, I mean, Deadpool is my favorite movie of f***ing all time, more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
