Antwone Fisher Net Worth $2 Million

Antwone Fisher was born in a women’s prison, where his mother, Eva Mae Fisher (17), served a sentence for killing his father, Edward Elkins (23). Social services picked him up and sent him to foster care, so he spent his childhood growing up in several foster families. After a while, he was adopted and spent around two years with his first family, who loved him very much, but he had to leave them and soon he was adopted by another family, who were very abusive, so through the 14 years that he spent with them, he suffered beating, verbal and sexual abuse, which had a great impact on him as a person. He matriculated from George Junior Republic School in Pennsylvania, a high school created only for underprivileged young men. After that, he started doing business outside of the law to survive – one of the jobs was collecting money for a local pimp. In order to escape homelessness, Antwone joined the U.S. Navy in 1978, and served for 11 years, and a Navy’s psychiatrist helped him with his childhood traumas.

After leaving the Navy, he started work as a federal correctional officer at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, after which he got a job in the security section in Sony Pictures. While he was working there, he found his biological family and his mother, which helped him a lot in writing his autobiography entitled “Finding Fish” in 2001. The book had enormous success, and he had a number of significant offers from Hollywood directors and producers who wanted to put his story into a motion picture. Firstly he refused everybody, but eventually sold it to 20th Century Fox and the result of this collaboration was a film named after him, for which he was both a writer and a co-producer, adding a considerable amount to his net worth. In the film, he was portrayed by Derek Luke, and it was directed by Denzel Washington.

To speak further about his career, in 2005, he wrote “Who Will Cry For The Little Boy?”, and in the following year, he was a co-writer of the drama “ATL”. Three years later he was writer and director of the short film “My Summer Friend”, all of which increased his net worth by a large margin. Most recently, he published the book “A Boy Should Know How To Tie A Tie And Other Lessons For Succeeding In Life” in 2010, and he wrote the documentary “This Life Of Mine The Leon T. Garr Story” (2012).

Thanks to his remarkable accomplishments, Antwone has been nominated for and won many prestigious awards. Some of the most significant ones are a nomination for the WGA Award for Best Original Screenplay, the winning of the ShoWest Award in the category of Screenwriter of the Year and another winning of the American Screenwriters Association’s Discover Screenwriting Award.

Quote
1 Life often has a way of making people feel small and unimportant. But if you find a way to express yourself through writing, to put your ideas and stories on paper, you’ll feel more consequential. No one should pass through time without writing their thoughts and experiences down for others to learn from. Even if only one person, a family member, reads something you wrote long after you’re gone, you live on. So writing gives you power. Writing gives you immortality.
