Tijjani Reijnders' starting place at Man City was not guaranteed towards the end of the season

Atletico Madrid are showing interest in Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as they also await an answer from his team-mate Bernardo Silva.

Netherlands international Reijnders only joined City a year ago in a £46.5million move from AC Milan and went on to make 47 appearances, scoring seven goals, as he claimed two trophies in his first season.

However, with his starting place not always guaranteed towards the second half of the campaign, Atletico want to check if there is a chance of him leaving this summer.

The Spanish side are in the process of rebuilding to keep Diego Simeone’s side competitive and have also made an offer to former City favourite Bernardo Silva, who is a free agent, though it is understood his preference would be to join their La Liga rivals Barcelona.

Relations between the two Spanish clubs are strained after Barca made an opening offer of around £85m for Atleti striker Julian Alvarez. Atleti want over £110m for the Argentina international after allowing Antoine Griezmann to leave for the MLS also.

Atleti are also continuing dialogue with Wolves for midfielder Joao Gomes after agreeing a £39m fee earlier this month.

Reijnders is more attack-minded but Atleti acknowledge it is a difficult deal to pull off.

City’s new coach Enzo Maresca will still be assessing his squad while talks are continuing to bring in new players such as Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.

They are also looking to add a winger with Savinho wanted by Tottenham and are looking at left-back options with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella being linked.

Centre-back Josko Gvardiol is also understood to be on Barcelona’s potential wishlist but he is considered crucial to City’s defence.
