Celtic have suspended the season tickets of their vocal supporters group following actions which defied club orders at recent matches.

The Green Brigade, who occupy the north corner of Celtic Park, have seen their allocation in the rail seating section revoked until further notice, beginning with Wednesday’s Premiership clash against St Mirren.

Tensions between the club and group have reached a head in recent weeks with their continued defiance of bans on flying banners or flags relating to Isreal-Hamas conflict.

The Glasgow giants sought to clamp down on further issues ahead of last week’s Champions League visit of Atletico Madrid after they were fined £23,000 by UEFA for their fans behaviour during away fixtures against against Feyenoord in September.

But their attempts, which included barring the group from early entry to the clash, were unsuccessful as the Green Brigade distributed thousands of Palestine flags which were seen all around Celtic Park.

The club have now stepped up their policing of the group and detailed a number of incidents which have led to their banning in an email.

‘You may already be aware of the recent actions that the Club has taken in respect of the Green Brigade relating to access at home matches and access to away tickets and the Club’s review of unacceptable conduct concerning the group.’ The message read.

‘Following that review, and further serious issues with the behaviour of Green Brigade members at the last two matches, the Club deems it necessary to take further action in respect of the group.

‘In light of the behaviour of group members, including numerous examples of non-compliance with the Ground Regulations, the Rail Seating Safety Code of Conduct, and Club communications, over a period stretching back to September, the Club has determined that it requires to suspend the season tickets of all season ticket holders who have registered with the Ticket Office as being part of the ‘Green Brigade’ supporters club.’

The lengthy statement also cited the use of pyrotechnics at the Champions League match in Rotterdam as well as ‘unsafe behaviour’ at Fir Park for a match against Motherwell.
