Chelsea are considering joining the bidding for AIK winger Zadok Yohanna.
Brighton opened talks with the Swedish club at the weekend and Newcastle have since made a rival offer as a £20million battle takes shape for the 18-year-old winger.
Brighton and Newcastle are understood to have made similar bids of around £20.5m, with AIK obliged to make public initial details of negotiations as they are listed on the stock market.
However, Chelsea have discussed an offer worth £21.6m including bonuses for Yohanna, who only joined AIK from the Ikon Allah academy in Nigeria last summer.
Real Madrid, Rennes, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have also sent staff to watch Yohanna who is a left-footed winger that plays on the right. Indeed, during April’s clash with Kalmar FF, there were 32 scouts at the game all credited with interest in the teenager.
Yohanna was called up to represent Nigeria last month but AIK blocked him from joining the national camp for the Unity Cup saying he needed to fully recover from an injury.
Winger Zadok Yohanna, 18, is garnering interest from a host of top European clubs
He has only played in seven league games, scoring twice and adding two assists, however, his potential was there for all to see in Swedish Cup games earlier in the year and his talent is such that clubs have already been pressing to sign him.
Inevitably, on Sunday, AIK confirmed that they had opened negotiations to sell.
A statement on AIK’s website reads: ‘AIK Fotboll has initiated negotiations regarding the sale of player Zadok Yohanna. The current bid indicates a net profit effect higher than £20m. If and when an agreement has been reached, this will be communicated.’
Brighton, with their knack of unearthing gems, have jumped to the front of the queue and there is confidence a deal will be concluded.
Yohanna has drawn attention for his speed, technical ability and his ability in one-on-one situations. They are looking for a club and Swedish top flight record sale of around £22million.
Key for the player will be his first team pathway.
Newcastle are also assessing Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.
