Conor Gallagher is reportedly set to leave Chelsea on loan, with Crystal Palace and Newcastle interested in signing him for the season.

The central midfielder is attracting interest from other Premier League sides after a solid loan spell at relegated West Bromwich Albion last season.

And according to the Sun, the Blues are willing to sanction a temporary move away, but view him as part of their long-term plans.

Gallagher, 21, who has been training with the first team and played in the club’s 6-1 pre-season win against Peterborough, spent the season before last at Charlton and Swansea before impressing at the Hawthorns last campaign.

But there is little chance of him breaking into Chelsea’s current Premier League squad, with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount currently ahead of him in the queue for the two deeper midfield slots.

However, like Billy Gilmour – currently on loan at Norwich – the club are understood to be unwilling to sanction a permanent departure, with Palace and Newcastle both happy to take him for a season and give him more Premier League experience.

The Eagles are also said to have been priced out of a transfer for Lyon centre back Joachim Andersen, who impressed on loan at Fulham last season.

Dane Andersen had been linked with Tottenham, who may now have moved on to other targets, with Palace also unlikely to pay the £26million asking price.

Gary Cahill, 35, may leave Selhurst Park after his contract expired this summer, with Rangers reportedly poised to offer him £35,000 a week. Palace want him to stay but their current deal is a lower salary but with more appearance-based bonuses.
