Raheem Sterling has vowed to keep striving for his place in the England squad, despite being absent from Gareth Southgate’s plans again this month.

The Chelsea star was missing from the England squad to face Australia and Italy, following on from Southgate’s admission that Sterling was ‘not happy’ to be left out of the previous camp in September.

The 28-year-old, who has 82 England caps and 20 goals for his country, has vowed to fight to get his place back before Euro 2024.

Sterling told The Guardian: ‘Of course, England is still very important for me.

‘It is a massive year for England with the players we’ve got but, like every other day, you just keep working, keep striving and what will be will be.

‘Mentally, it is all good. Life is great. I have a beautiful family, so what more can I ask for?’

Sterling had been a mainstay in the England camp for a decade before the start of 2023, after making his debut as a 17 year old.

He initially lost his place after the 2022 World Cup due to form and injury concerns at the end of last season.

In years gone by, Southgate had shown unwavering support for Sterling, repeatedly insisting that he was an integral member of the set-up.

But with a long list of talented young attackers stepping up in his absence, it appears England have moved on without Sterling.

England qualified for Euro 2024 this week following their 3-1 win over Italy.

Meanwhile, Sterling has been focusing on rediscovering his best club form, and working with the Raheem Sterling Foundation.
