Danny Rohl has been out of work since leaving Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the start of this season

Danny Rohl is to become the new manager of Rangers, days after ruling himself out of the running for the job.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss arrived in Glasgow on Monday to finalise terms with the plan to be in charge for Thursday’s Europa League clash with SK Brann.

Rohl had stepped back from the interview process after Rangers intensified talks with Steven Gerrard then Kevin Muscat.

However, after the Scottish giants failed to find agreement with either, Rohl re-emerged as the leading candidate.

The 36-year-old steered Sheffield Wednesday away from relegation and finished 12th in his one full season.

He left Hillsborough in the summer by mutual agreement amid ongoing financial difficulties at the club.

Before taking charge at crisis-club Wednesday, which was his first job in management, Rohl held coaching positions at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Southampton, and was assistant boss under Hansi Flick at the Germany national team.

Rangers want a replacement for Russell Martin who was sacked after just 123 days in charge.

Rangers failed to qualify for the Champions League under Martin and lost both of their Europa League games. They sit sixth in the Scottish Premiership.

Rohl intends to add former Rangers staff to his backroom team once he is confirmed.
