El Trafico is POSTPONED in a major blow for Major League Soccer’s opening weekend after of storms

The highly anticipated rivalry game known as El Trafico between the LA Galaxy and LAFC has been postponed due to inclement weather and forecasted Thunderstorms.

The match has been rescheduled and will now take place on July 4.

Tickets purchased for the Saturday’s now postponed game will be honored for the rescheduled date and additional ticket information is set be released by the Galaxy.

LAFC will host the Portland Timbers in their next scheduled on Saturday, March 4th.

The Galaxy on the other hand are set to play FC Dallas next on March 4th as well.

The weather forecast in Los Angeles and the surrounding area calls for two days of intense rain

The National Weather Service posted multiple flood warnings for LA and the surrounding areas

It also means that the next El Trafico matchup is now not scheduled until April 16th.

The Galaxy have held the upper hand in the rivalry during regular season matchups and hold a record of 6-2-5 over their cross-town rivals, the also won the lone matchup between the sides in the US Open Cup.

LAFC have held the advantage in the playoffs however, with a 2-0-0 record.

The EL Trafico rivalry is one of the newer ones in MLS, seeing as LAFC were not formed until 2014. 

It’s name was derived from the endless traffic jams of Los Angeles, where it’s difficult to get around without vehicles and near-impossible to go significant distances in a reasonable timeframe, 

It was also intended to play off of the iconic ‘El Clasico’ rivalry between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
