Erik ten Hag looks to draw on former glories as he prepares for FA Cup final against Man City on Saturday… with Man United aiming to make it a hat-trick of wins at Wembley this season

  • Man United face arch-rivals Man City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday
  • United have already won two games at the national stadium so far this season
  • Erik ten Hag is following the same plan as they attempt to derail City’s Treble bid

Erik ten Hag is sticking to his Wembley blueprint as Manchester United go in search of a hat-trick of wins at the national stadium.

United have already beaten Brighton on penalties to set up the first all-Manchester FA Cup final, and also lifted the Carabao Cup in February with victory over Newcastle.

Ten Hag is following the same plan as he tries to derail Manchester City’s bid to complete the Treble.

United will fly into London on Friday and will stay at the same hotel and train at the same facilities beforehand.

As the away team, United will have to wear black shorts with their red shirts and black socks to avoid clashing with City’s first-choice blue and white colours. But they will have the same dressing-room as the previous two occasions, with United fans once again occupying the east half of Wembley.

Man United have already won twice at Wembley this season – the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle along with the FA Cup semi-final victory over Brighton on penalties

The FA revealed on Thursday that Sir Alex Ferguson and City legend Mike Summerbee will walk the match ball onto the pitch before kick-off.

Ten Hag will draw on United’s win in the Old Trafford derby in January as he tries to outfox Pep Guardiola again.

‘It’s really enjoyable to watch Manchester City, but we have to stop them and make it our game,’ said the Dutchman.

‘We want to win that cup. We know it’s going to be tough because we’re playing probably against the best team in the world in this moment, but we proved we can beat them so we have to go again. If we have great belief then anything is possible.

‘The rivalry is logical and normal on both sides, but in the end you have to respect each other.

‘Of course, on Saturday we will fight each other. It’s a big game, the FA Cup final. Any game between United and City is huge but when it’s a final it’s special.’
