ESPN's Matt Miller underwent a life-saving amputation on his left arm after a horror car crash

ESPN analyst Matt Miller has revealed the next steps to his recovery following his near-fatal car crash that led to the amputation of his left arm.

Miller, who works as an NFL Draft analyst for the network, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital with ‘significant injuries’ following the crash in Missouri last week, which included multiple fractures and broken ribs.

Local news outlet KOAM was first to report on the crash, revealing that Miller was driving a 2023 Bronco on Missouri Route 96 when he crossed the center line and struck a semi tractor trailer at around 3:50pm.

The other driver, a 28-year-old man from Springfield, was not injured in the collision.

On Thursday, fresh details about the incident were revealed via a GoFundMe page set up for the analyst – and now Miller has issued his own update on his recovery.

Taking to X on Friday morning, the ESPN NFL draft analyst wrote: ‘Today’s surgery is a big one. To find out if my shoulder can be reconstructed in order to support a prosthetic arm.

‘Your continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated,’ Miller added.

The ESPN star initially shared details of his crash on Tuesday, writing a heartbreaking statement about the incident on his social media.

‘I’m deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff. I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this,’ the 42-year-old said in a heartbreaking post on X.

‘As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm.

‘While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time.’

After thanking people for their ‘overwhelming support’ in the wake of his accident, Miller added: ‘I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class.’

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page set up to help support Miller’s recovery journey has since raised over $43,000 – including a $5,525 donation from Pat McAfee.

The description to the fundraiser read: ‘Matt suffered a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, multiple broken ribs, and lost a significant amount of blood. To save his life, doctors performed an emergency amputation of his left arm.

Miller has worked for ESPN since 2021 after previously serving as Bleacher Report’s lead NFL Draft writer for over a decade.

The reporter, who made his on-air debut for the network in 2023, has also previously appeared on their NFL Live, SportsCenter and Get Up! among other shows.
