James Maddison hit back at 'Tottenham get battered' chants with a sign that read: 'north London is white'

  • Alexandra Palace was filled with mocking chants of ‘Tottenham get battered’
  • James Maddison got involved with a pro-Spurs banner in a cheeky riposte
  • Luke Littler lost the World Darts Championship final 7-4 to Luke Humphries

Football fans found it hilarious when chants mocking Tottenham rang around Ally Pally during the World Darts Championship final – and James Maddison couldn’t resist biting back.

A chorus of ‘Tottenham get battered everywhere they go’ was belted out around a raucous Alexandra Palace as footballing rivalry overspilled into darts’ night of reckoning.

Luke Littler’s dream of becoming the world’s youngest-ever darts champion was dashed after a breathtaking comeback by Luke Humphries, who won five straight sets to claim a 7-4 victory.

Despite the gripping drama on the oche, revellers made their own fun with anti-Tottenham chants.

Spurs star Maddison hit back by holding up a sign which read ‘north London is white’ in reference to his team’s rivalry with Arsenal.

‘Will always make me laugh that ‘Tottenham get battered everywhere they go’ is literally sang by everyone, everywhere,’ wrote one user of X, formerly Twitter.

‘Tottenham get battered ringing around the darts has finished me,’ said another.

‘Wish they panned to James Maddison when the crowd started chanting Tottenham get battered,’ wrote another.

Another applauded: ‘Ally Pally in unison singing” Tottenham get battered everywhere they go” to James Maddison in the crowd. Poetic s***housery.’

Despite the strong current in favour of ridiculing Spurs – who sit in a commendable fifth place in the Premier League, just one point off the top four – there was resistance from the Ange Postecoglou faithful.

‘Madders responding to chants of “Tottenham get battered” at the darts this evening! Fully COYS [Come on You Spurs]’ wrote a fan account, posting the photo of Maddison holding up his pro-Spurs banner.

‘Love hearing the Tottenham get battered song at the darts. Rent free in your heads. How annoyed you must get every time we win. Love it,’ wrote somebody else.
