Fans noticed Toni Kroos's instrumental role in Vinicius Jr's opening goal for Real Madrid

Fans noticed how instrumental Toni Kroos was in Real Madrid’s opener on Tuesday night – by pointing Vinicius Jr in the direction to run.

Vinicius Jr opened the scoring for the visitors at Bayern Munich 24 minutes into the Champions League semi-final first-leg.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) were impressed with the 34-year-old’s ‘football IQ’, and the way he was able to coach on the field against his former club.

Kroos was a Bayern Munich player as a youth, before making the grade at senior level, eventually leaving the club for Real Madrid in 2014.

On the goal, TNT Sports pundit Michael Owen said: ‘It’s basic striker play, you always give one for the defender and one for yourself. You come in, come in, he never had any intention of getting that ball to feet Vinicius Jr.

‘He just wanted to create more space and then all of a sudden his eyes are lighting up like “he’s [the defender] is coming with me”.

‘Spin and he’s in, it is so simple, don’t get me wrong the timing of the pass, everything has got to be perfect. But it is very basic play – something you learn as a school boy. Kim [Min-jae] has got sucked in badly there.’
