Lewis Baker hit a Championship goal of the season contender for Stoke on Saturday, scoring from his own half in their 3-1 win over Swansea.

The former Chelsea academy star spotted goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux way off his line and decided to test his luck from over 60 yards out.

He found the back of net, logging his third goal in the league this season.

For reference, Baker’s goal eclipsed David Beckham’s iconic 57-yard strike for Manchester United in 1996 against Wimbledon.

Baker joined Chelsea’s academy setup as a nine-year-old in 2005, and spent eight years there as a professional.

However, between 2014 and 2022, the midfielder made just two senior appearances for the Blues.

Baker debuted for Chelsea under Jose Mourinho as an 87th-minute substitute in a 2-0 FA Cup third round win over Derby in January 2014.

He endured loan spells at a plethora of clubs before joining Stoke on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Those clubs included Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Reading, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Trabzonspor.

On August 29 2024, Baker joined Blackburn on loan until the end of the season, but was recalled by Stoke last month.

He represented England from Under-17 to Under-21 level, but never earned a senior cap for his nation.
