Former Manchester United academy star Demetri Mitchell has revealed he was the victim of a burglary in Essex, with thieves stealing his car and a number of personal items during a house move.

The 28-year-old, who joined Leyton Orient this summer, was relocating from Manchester when the incident occurred overnight. 

Mitchell says burglars broke into the property, stole his car keys, and then drove off with a vehicle loaded with valuable belongings.

The former England youth international took to social media to appeal for help in getting his car back.

He posted on X: ‘Just been burgled last night in Essex came in robbed my car keys and had a lot of valuables in the car as I was moving my things from Manchester last night.’

Mitchell also shared the registration number of the stolen vehicle and urged anyone with information to come forward: ‘Anybody see the reg YH25 VDD this car please let me know.’

He has since had spells at Hearts, Blackpool, Hibernian, Exeter City – and joined Leyton Orient in June. 

Mitchell becomes the latest victim in a worrying trend of footballers being targeted by criminals, with a growing number of stars falling prey to burglaries and car thefts 

In November 2024, Newcastle star Joelinton’s home was burgled for a second time. 

The midfielder revealed thieves targeted his home for the second time in 2024 following a January raid.

He posted across his social media accounts: ‘Our home was broken into again. To anyone considering doing this – please know that there is nothing valuable left here!

‘What we care about most is our family’s safety and our kids growing up without fear.

‘We hope for a community where our children, and everyone’s children, feel safe.’We ask that our home be respected as a safe space for our family. We simply want to live in peace.’
