Gary Neville has ripped into five Manchester United players for their ‘whinging and sleeping’ in their humiliating Carabao Cup exit on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils lost 3-0 at home for the second time in the matter of three days, as Newcastle sent them packing out of the competition last night, after Man City had took a comfortable victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock scored the goals for Eddie Howe’s side, and it was their second strike which summed up the shambolic defending produced by Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Speaking on commentary for Sky Sports, Neville blasted five players for their role in Hall’s strike for Newcastle which doubled the lead after 37 minutes.
After referee Robert Jones whistled for a foul, the five Man United stars – Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial and Hannibal Mejbri – all appeared to be complaining as Matt Ritchie sprinted onto the scene and played a quick free-kick.

With the United players caught off-guard, Newcastle took full advantage as Miguel Almiron set Joe Willock in behind the defence, and his cross was headed by Maguire into the path of Hall who volleyed into the bottom right corner.
Neville pointed out the five Man United players as he said after the goal: ‘If we go back to the free-kick here, watch Manchester United when they give it away, watch them five players. Look at them.
‘They’re just sleeping, they’re complaining to the referee, whinging. And whilst they’re whinging, Newcastle are winning.
‘It’s a wonderful, wonderful strike. Lewis Hall is a big talent, such a controlled, smooth volley. As soon as that free-kick was given away, the five of them were turning round and having a go at the referee whilst Newcastle were playing. It’s schoolboy stuff, like under-9s.’
The five players Neville referred to have cost United a staggering total of £250m.

Maguire (£80m), Casemiro (£70m) and Mount (£65m) were seen with their backs to the ball as they protested the decision of a free-kick in the Newcastle half to the referee.
Ritchie meanwhile ran in front of both Martial (£36m) and Mejbri (£9m) to play the ball to Willock who played a one-two with Almiron.
Ten Hag’s side struggled to lay a glove on the Magpies in what was a rematch of last year’s Carabao Cup final where the Red Devils prevailed.
It was the second time that Manchester United have lost 3-0 at home in the last week
Neville also warned Erik ten Hag (right) that he might get sacked going off United’s record with managers over the last decade
Willock sealed the match for the Magpies with a 60th minute strike, with Howe’s side advancing into the quarter-finals.
The morning after the match, Neville warned Ten Hag that he might get sacked due to the club’s rudderless approach.
Ten Hag has now overseen United’s worst start to a season since the 1962-63 campaign and the club have lost five of their first 10 home games at Old Trafford for the first time since 1930-31.
‘Last night we saw the Theatre of Dreams turn into the Theatre of Nothing. Every single United fan bored and flat,’ Neville wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
‘On the pitch the players in shock, the performances woeful and a manager struggling in front of our eyes.’
And the former United right back warned the run of dismal results could spell trouble for Ten Hag.
‘We’ve seen it before, we know how it ends and we’ve had enough,’ he added.
