Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis (pictured right and left) tied the knot in a stunning ceremony on New Year's Eve

Sam Kerr took to Instagram on Thursday to publish a picture of herself ringing in the new year after she tied the knot with Kristie Mewis during a lavish ceremony on Wednesday.

Kerr and Mewis were wed at the stunning Dionysus Villa in her hometown of Perth, with the Matildas star donning a black tuxedo with a white boutonniere.

Her wife, Kristie, stunned in a beautiful white outfit that featured a corset which was overlaid with a transparent gown that had slivers of sparkling material running down the length of the dress.

The couple were married in front of around 100 people at the Swan Valley venue, with a crowd of Kerr’s Matildas team-mates arriving to celebrate with the happy couple.

On Thursday, Kerr took to Instagram to publish a snap of herself celebrating with friends after the wedding.

Kerr reposted a photo on her story showing her celebrating the new year in front of a giant 2026 sign, posing alongside her friends Josh Lofthouse and Tyson Hodge.

It appeared the party had gone on into the late hours, with the Chelsea star seen still wearing her tuxedo from her wedding.

The footballer raised one arm in the air and smiled as she posed for the snap.

Kerr had stayed at Crown Towers in Perth prior to the wedding on Wednesday and was pictured leaving the hotel with her dad, Roger, before she headed to the ceremony.

On New Year’s Day, the Matildas skipper published another snap on her Instagram story on New Year’s Day, from what appeared to be the balcony of her and Mewis’ room at Crown Towers.

On Tuesday, the couple hosted their wedding guests for a drinks reception. The happy couple both wore white outfits as they posed for photos alongside one of Mewis’ former US National Team team-mates, Stephanie McCaffrey.

She showed off a stunning view of Matilda Bay and the Swan River, as well as the hotel’s swimming pool.

Kerr and Mewis met back in 2019, with the Chelsea striker having revealed earlier this year that her partner, a former West Ham United and US National side midfielder, had ‘slid into her DMs’.

The couple announced their relationship in 2021, after the Tokyo Olympics and would get engaged in 2023.

They also became parents earlier this year, with Mewis giving birth to their son, Jagger, in May.

Kerr carried Jagger down the aisle on New Year’s Eve, a moment that Mewis had predicted would make her cry.

‘That is going to be gut-wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens,’ Kristie had told the Mewis Squared podcast in the days preceding the wedding.

Kerr and Jagger had worn matching outfits, and she was also seen handing her baby boy over to her dad so that she could recite her wedding vows.

Heartwarming photos emerged of Kerr during the big day stepping away from her guests to feed her baby boy.

The tuxedo-clad footballer was pictured carrying a baby bottle filled with milk for her seven-month-old son.

She had recently spoken on how motherhood had changed her life, stating that it hadn’t altered her view on football.

‘It’s actually interesting – I don’t think it’s changed my perspective on football,’ Kerr said when asked, during an interview with CBA Newsroom, what it’s been like becoming a new parent.

‘I still love the game and I’m all in when I’m there. But it has changed my home life. When I come home, I’m not watching clips of myself anymore. I have better separation now, and it’s been healthy.’

She held Mewis’ hand and smiled as the happy couple said ‘I do’. Mewis was also seen touching Kerr’s arm as they locked eyes in what was a sign of affection.

The Matildas stars gathered together after the ceremony was completed and toasted their captain.

Kerr and Mewis had thrown a huge party for their guests, who were all wearing black outfits.

Invitees flanked Mewis and Kerr as they said their wedding vows in the front courtyard of the Dionysus Villa.

The happy couple shared a kiss, with guests around them cheering and congratulating them after they had tied the knot.

The party began soon after and Daily Mail can reveal what was on the drinks menu.
