Ibrahima Konate missed his second Liverpool game in succession after the tragic death of his father.
The Liverpool centre-back was absent for the Reds’ 3-0 victory away in Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday.
He had returned to Paris after his father, Hamady, passed away and the funeral took place on Friday.
It remains to be seen when Konate will return to the club but Arne Slot named Joe Gomez in his place once again for the Reds’ clash with Bournemouth.
After the funeral, Konate took to social media and wrote: ‘Thank you all so much for your messages, calls, thoughts and presence today at the mosque.
‘Even though I haven’t had the strength or time to reply to everyone, This really touched me and did a lot of good. Thank you for your support and prayers. May Allah keep you safe.’
Ibrahima Konate missed his second Liverpool game after the death of his father
On Thursday, the 26-year-old had confirmed the death of his father with a social media post after Liverpool said he was absent for personal reasons.
His post read: ‘Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return.
‘Janazah (Funeral Prayer) For our father Hamady Konaté will take place on Friday, 23 January, after Jumu’ah prayer at In Sha Allah (12:45 pm).
It went on: ‘The Messenger of Allah said: “There is no deceased person over whom a group of Muslims numbering one hundred prays, all of them interceding for him, except that their intercession is accepted.”‘
The address of the funeral was given and the message was signed off from ‘The Konate family’.
The funeral has now taken place and Konate would not have had time to come back or train with his team-mates.
When asked about the situation on Wednesday evening, Slot had said: ‘No, first of all for the family matter, why he is not here, it is very sad for him.
‘Second of all, we miss him because I mainly played him and [Virgil van Dijk].’
Konate’s form has improved significantly in recent weeks after patchy displays earlier in the season and Liverpool are now unbeaten in 13 matches across all competitions.
Victory over the Cherries would help consolidate their place in the top four and the game is the late afternoon kick-off on Saturday.
Liverpool XI: Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Salah, Gakpo, Frimpong, Gravenberch.
