Inter Milan ‘reject a £40m offer from Chelsea for goalkeeper Andre Onana’ with talks set to continue after the Champions League final

  • Inter Milan have rejected an initial £40m offer from Chelsea for Andre Onana
  • It comes as the goalkeeper is set to play in the Champions League final
  • Chelsea could also reportedly look to include Romelu Lukaku in the deal

Inter Milan have reportedly rejected an offer from Chelsea for their goalkeeper Andre Onana.

It comes as the Italian side are set to bid for their first Champions League title in 13 years as they take on Manchester City in Istanbul on Saturday.

Onana was pictured in training on Friday ahead of the match and is likely to be in the starting line-up.

In the last month, plenty of speculation has arisen over the shot-stopper’s future in Milan, with Mail Sport reporting that the London side were planning to open talks with the 27-year-old this summer, while Mauricio Pochettino has already given the club the green light to sign him.

And it seems they haven’t been waiting around, with TuttoMercatoWeb claiming that Todd Boehly’s side ‘have had a £40million offer for the goalkeeper rejected’.

The Italian outlet also understands that Onana ‘would like to join the Premier League team’ and ‘has already reached an agreement in principle with Pochettino’s side’, the deal now hinges on whether an arrangement can be struck between the two clubs.

And that, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, that deal ‘could also include Romelu Lukakau’, who moved back to Internazionale last summer on a loan move, after he became unsettled at the club, notably stoking the fire during an interview where he criticised former manager Thomas Tuchel’s tactics last season.

Chelsea could also offload Edouard Mendy this summer, with reports earlier this year suggesting that talks over his contract had come to a halt, while Tottenham were now in the running to acquire the Senegalese keeper.

That could leave the door open for Onana, who could join the Blues this summer if both parties agree to a deal.

A graduate from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy, Onana was snapped up by Ajax in 2015 and spent seven years at the Eredivisie side, before moving to Inter in 2022.

While the Cameroon international played just once at the 2022 World Cup, he has been pivotal for Inzaghi’s side this season, making 40 appearances while keeping 19 clean sheets.

Ahead of the Champions League final on Saturday, Onana has admitted that he is not feeling the pressure of playing against Manchester City.

‘They are probably the best team in the world but they have to show this on Saturday,’ he said. ‘We’ll be there to defend and represent Inter, to make history. It is not going to be easy but they have to show they are the best.

‘Why would I not be relaxed? I am calm. I have no pressure, we have no pressure at all. We know it is not going to be easy but we will be there. They have more pressure than us, I am calm.

‘It is football. In this life I am only afraid of God and I don’t see him on the pitch. Men are men.’
