Ivan Toney was denied a win in the dying seconds of his debut as Al-Ahli were held to a 1-1 draw by Al-Nassr.

The England international was previously tipped with making a potential £100m blockbuster move to Arsenal before a lack of offers eventually led to Brentford accepting a cut-price figure £40m from Saudi Arabia.

Toney completed his departure from European football on deadline day and had been getting to grips with his new surroundings in the Middle East over the international break.

The 28-year-old was given his first start as Al-Ahli sought to pick up their second win of the season away to Al-Nassr.

Former AC Milan and Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie’s thumping strike from the edge of the box gave Toney’s side the lead after 57 minutes.

However, an own-goal Bassam al Hurayji in the 99th minute  ensured the points were shared at Al-Awwal Park.

Toney will hope to get the ground running soon after signing a deal in the region of £400,000-a-week, making him one of the highest paid Englishmen in the history of football.

Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, ex-Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy are among his team-mates at Al-Ahli.

Meanwhile, prior to the game, Cristiano Ronaldo was presented with a special shirt to commemorate reaching 900 career goals.

Al Nassr fans also paid tribute to the Portuguese legend as they unveiled a tifo to celebrate the landmark he reached during the international break.

The 39-year-old tapped the ball home against Croatia before scoring his 901st goal in the dying minutes of Portugal’s 2-1 win over Scotland.
