Jamie Carragher has suggested that one of Rodri’s Spain team-mates deserved to win the Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament award instead of him.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri was presented with the prestigious accolade following Spain’s 2-1 win against England in the final.
Rodri produced some hugely impressive performances at Euro 2024, although he had to be withdrawn at half time in the final due to injury.
The 28-year-old missed Spain’s win against Albania in the group stages due to suspension but featured in all of his nation’s other games at the tournament.
Rodri’s highlight of Euro 2024 came in the 4-1 victory against Georgia in the round of 16 as he equalised with a strike from the edge of the box.

Carragher, however, claimed that another Spain player performed even better than Rodri in Germany.
According to Carragher, Fabian Ruiz should have been named Player of the Tournament instead.
Ruiz was a key part of Spain’s success, with the midfielder playing some excellent passes.

The 28-year-old scored against Croatia and Georgia, while he also provided an assist in both of those games.
Journalist Tony Scott praised Rodri on X, writing that the midfielder was ‘Player of the Tournament without question. The best midfielder out there’.
However, Carragher begged to differ as he wrote: ‘Ruiz was better in this tournament’.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Ruiz has 29 caps for Spain, having made his debut for his country in 2019. He was also part of the Spain squad that won the Nations League in 2023.
