Julian Nagelsmann’s reporter girlfriend – whose relationship with the sacked Bayern Munich boss ‘led to a lack of trust with the players’ – CONFIRMED to be leaving her job at Bild

  • The 35-year-old was shockingly sacked as Bayern Munich boss last week
  • Relationship with Lena Wurzenberger reportedly led to lack of trust with players
  • She will leave her role at Bild to take up a job with car manufacturer BMW

Julian Nagelsmann’s girlfriend, Lena Wurzenberger, is to leave her job at Bild following the coach’s shocking sacking as Bayern Munich manager last week.

The 35-year-old departed his role as head coach of Bayern last week having returned from a skiing holiday. In a brutal 61-minute meeting he was handed the news and immediately replaced by Thomas Tuchel. The club are one point off the Bundesliga summit and have won all eight of their games in the Champions League so far this season.

Amid wild speculation surrounding the club’s reasoning for his departure, it was reported last week that a lack of trust was evident among the players owing to Wurzenberger’s job with one of Germany’s most notable publications.

After reports of such, her employer Bild confirmed on Wednesday that she would leave her role as a local Munich reporter and would be joining BMW from April 1 as ‘spokeswoman for the supplier network and sustainability’.

Following Nagelsmann’s own life being flipped upside down having reportedly become aware of his impending sacking via social media, Wurzenberger has decided to switch careers.

Clearly planning a long and fruitful relationship together, Bild also report Nagelsmann and Wurzenberger are planning to build a property on the picturesque Lake Tegernsee, situated in the Bavarian Alps.

Nagelsmann was dismissed with three years left on his Bayern deal, meaning he is set for a sizeable payout from the German giants.

Their relationship became public last year when they first appeared at an event together. Nagelsmann has two children from his previous marriage, which ended after 15 years last year.

Wurzenberger was last year removed from covering Bayern by the publication after it was revealed she was in a relationship with the club’s manager.

With the news of his impending departure travelling quickly, Nagelsmann found out his fate on a skiing holiday with Wurzenberger.

It came as a shock to the wider footballing landscape, but Bayern have been keen to stress their contentment with the decision.

‘When we signed Julian Nagelsmann for FC Bayern in the summer of 2021, we were convinced we would work with him on a long-term basis – and that was the goal of all of us right up to the end,’ the club’s CEO Oliver Kahn said.

‘Julian shares our aspiration to play successful and attractive football. But now we have come to the conclusion that the quality in our squad – despite the Bundesliga title last year – has come to the fore less and less often.

‘After the World Cup we have played less successfully and less attractively. The big fluctuations in performance have cast doubt on our goals for this season, but also our goals for the future. That is why we have acted now.’

Former Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea boss Tuchel was not willing to wait until the summer, so the six-time Champions League winners moved swiftly to instal him with just two months of the season remaining.

Having been a candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham, Tuchel’s name was forced to be removed from Daniel Levy’s list – to be replaced, perhaps, by Nagelsmann.

Tottenham have twice previously tried to hire the German, in 2019 and ahead of his hiring as Bayern coach in 2021.

His immediate availability and the fact that he can be appointed without having to pay compensation make him a very attractive prospect, and Tottenham want to begin talks with Nagelsmann about him potentially becoming their new manager following Conte’s sacking.

However, Bild have reported Nagelsmann will take his time before mapping out his next career move as he looks to get over his ‘painful’ Bayern exit.

The report goes on to claim Nagelsmann would like to analyse what went wrong in his 21 months at the club and let it sink in before moving on to somewhere new.
